After their tormented love affair finally evolves into a relationship, Michael and Nikita conceive a child. Nikita's father is head of Centre and wants her to work with him running the operation and forget Michael. Her father, upon hearing of the pregnancy, finally agrees to allow them to be together if Michael goes on one last mission to the middle east. The mission goes wrong and Michael develops amnesia and believes Nikita has been killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. He has relationships with different women and uses sex as a escape from the memory of the 'dead' woman he truly loves - Nikita.
Nikita gives birth to twins and ends up living with Helmut, refusing to have anything to do with her father. She has been told Michael became a hunted terrorist and is now dead. She refuses to believe this and leaving her children in the care of a nanny, Walter and Helmut, she travels to Afghanistan to attempt her - Search for Michael.
