"Lament For A Dust Bunny"

(Author's note: although the following three poems do not relate, directly, to LFN, they were posted on the Story Boards and inspired by conversations with LFN fanfic authors.)

My regretful heart is utterly forlorn and piteously keening:
I have destroyed an innocent Dust Bunny with my overzealous Spring-Cleaning.
When I think about his fluffy tail and adorable, twitching nose,
It wouldn't have done much harm to let him stay, I suppose.
But some irresistible force compelled me to dust and sweep,
And, now, thoughts of my departed friend make me wail and weep.
Armed with a can of furniture polish and alarming nerve,
I set out to demolish my home's natural Dust Bunny preserve.
Somehow, he sensed his imminent extinction and was all in a flurry.
When he heard my fatal approach, he fled for the corner, in a hurry;
And you should have seen him scamper and hop
When I brought in-as reinforcements-a pail and mop!
I found him-hiding and trembling-in the corner of the room
As I fired up my trusty, powerful vacuum.
The terrible knowledge was in his eyes: he had nowhere to run;
The vacuum swept, mercilessly, down on him-oh, my soul, what have I done?
From his fuzzy ears to his cuddly toes,
He vanished-slurped up the vacuum hose.
They will haunt, forever, my waking dreams:
Those abruptly silenced Dust Bunny screams...
Upon sober reflection, my eyes needn't be so red and runny:
After all, there's no such thing as just *one* Dust Bunny-
And, although my actions I thoroughly deplore,
Given the nature of Dust Bunnies, I'm sure I'll soon see more.
