"Nikita 'The Cat'"

Light Verse

Nikita, sleepily, stretches out her claws;
Gingerly, she opens one eye; then, after a pause,
Greatly annoyed, her ringing cell phone she paws-
Knowing it's definitely not "Santa Claus".
"Josephine," the taciturn man's voice purrs.
(Oh, what he *does* with those French words...)
*He* can pretend he's emotionally detached-
But *she* has an 'itch' she'd love him to 'scratch'.
Back in Section, Madeline milks
Nikita's fascination and the naïve "kitten" bilks
By 'spinning a yarn'-suggesting a situation
Requiring Michael and Nikita's strained flirtation.
Michael-who has a genuine shot
At being the world's first leopard to "change his spots"-
Grabs an unfortunate terrorist by the nape of the neck
And growls, because the interrogation might wreck
His chances-that night-of getting back
To Nikita's for...a late-night 'snack'.
Soon, with cat-like skill and speed,
The pride of Red Cell's soldiers are treed.
Michael and Nikita land on their feet
And, secretly, arrange a place to meet.
He's a leopard; she's a cat-
But they're 'feline fine' for all of that.
