I once met the eyes of a child
and she touched my soul
her eyes were so world-wary
that it broke my heart;
in them, I saw the reflections
of aged sorrows and pain too
heavy to be borne.
I saw a loneliness so desperate
and vast that it made me think
of endless stretches of desert
and worst of all I saw in those
eyes a poignant longing that had
never found voice.
I was left with the impression
of a battle-scared warrior - a
survivor who emerged from
the fray hurt and disillusioned
by innumerable betrayals.
But Unbroken.
