Michael sits by Nikita's bedside, wearing the face of waiting and of tiredness. He has no answers about what is happening, but the feeling of something being much bigger than he has been told is looming over his overworked brain. He reaches into the jacket the nursing staff had pealed off Nikita and pulls out a small tube of chapstick. Seeing Nikita's lips turning chapped because of the forced slumber she now stays in, aches Michael. He takes the cap off, and lightly rubs the chapstick over her pink tender lips. When pulling the chapstick away, he lightly brushes his thumb across the lips, hoping to nudge Nikita to wake up. The doctor walks over, with yet another dosage of medicine to maintain Nikita's slumber. Michael pushes the chapstick into his jeans and he turns to the doctor. "Is that medically necessary?" Michael asks through a horse voice. "No. But Madeline has order it." The doctor explains as he looks at the medicine. Michael instantly draws the conclusion that this doctor believe Nikita deserves to wake and not continue her slumber. "And if she doesn't get that this instant?" Michael asks softly as his hand rubs Nikita's. "She will stir." The doctor says softly back, now pausing in his movements. "Can I have that much?" Michael asks as his eyes go back to the evenly raising of Nikita's chest in her almost peaceful and heavenly slumber. "The instant Madeline makes a move towards Medlab, I will insist on administering this." The doctor says as he pockets the medicine. "Thank you." Michael mutters as he tries to piece together the large puzzle infront of him. He leans over and kisses Nikita's earlobe softly. "Mi..." Nikita moans as her eyes softly flutter as Michael pulls away from the tender kiss. "Nikita... I'm here..." Michael affirms as he feels Nikita lightly squeeze his hand. Her eyes open more widely, but she turns from the bright light overhead. Michael stands and pushes the light away from her face. "My head.... it feels like a medicine ball..." Nikita says as she rolls her head around with barely open eyes. "That's good to hear." Michael says with a genuine smile. The words are sweet music to Michael's ears. "How was Germany? Was it..." Nikita says until Michael stops her lips with his fingertips. "Successful.... you got a bump on your head.... you had a pretty wild dream..." Michael says, hoping that Nikita can still remember it. That dream just seemed to be the beginning of the information locked inside Nikita. "You were pregnant... was I laughing outloud?" Nikita asks with a smile of rememberence. Nikita knows that she screams outloud while having a nightmare, so it was only logical that she would laugh also. Michael, deciding not to tell her about what really happen not quite yet, smiled. "Yes.... The doctor is going to make you back to sleep..." Michael says as he senses the movement from the doorway. "But, but I just woke up." Nikita mildly protests. "Madeline's orders." Michael says softly. The doctor walks in and inserts the needle into the IV. "Michael... find the tape..." Nikita says as she struggles against the medicine. "Don't fight it, Nikita." Michael says as he leans over and kisses her forehead. "Madeline... had the tape... find the tape... keep me up.... Mi..." Nikita says as her eyes finally flutter to a close. Michael sits down and looks at the doctor. "You heard nothing." Michael orders the doctor. "I don't know what you are talking about." The doctor says with a smile. "I love you, Michael..." Nikita moans out in her sleep. Michael smiles. "Nikita... I have to go.... Walter will be in a few minutes... I'll be back..." Michael says as he stands up. He looks over his shoulder to see the elder man already waiting to see Nikita. Michael is aching to talk to someone and find out more about this tape Nikita was talking about. Michael moves towards the door. "How is your Sleeping Beauty?" Walter asks as he stands on the other side of the door. "Better." Michael says looking around. "I want you to stay with her until I come back." Michael says. "Does this deal with the rumor that Madeline is keeping her asleep?" Walter asks softly. "It might." Michael says and he steps through the doorway and heads out of Medlab. ************ Michael lokos both ways before opening the door on the left hand side of the darken hallway. He immediately activates the large scrambler and sets it on the desk. Ayn looks up and then down at the scrambler. She fingers it slowly as Michael pulls up a chair and makes himself comfortable. "This isn't standard procedure." Ayn says slowly. Michael just looks at her. "I have a problem." Michael says slowly as he reaches behind to his back. Ayn procedes to watch Michael pulls out the copy of EMOTIONS that he had taken from Madeline's office. He places it on the desk, next to the activated scrambler and Ayn doesn't even blink. "Madeline was blaming me for that book." Ayn says as as finally picks it up. "Madeline is keeping Nikita sedated from a minor head injury." Michael says and Ayn sits back in her chair a little bit further. "That is unusal for Madeline. What else is going on, Michael?" Ayn asks as she flips through the pages. She has read the book, and was interested in why Michael had it in his back pocket. "Nikita went on a mission with Madeline. Ever since, Nikita has been having... different kinds of nightmares... and she suddenly declared that she didn't want to have a kid." Michael says slowly as he tries to pick his words correctly. "What does this have to do with this book, Michael?" Ayn asks slowly as she places it down infront of her. "Nikita was required to read that. No one, NO ONE had access to the profile of the mission. Then Nikita got injuried... a head injury, and had a dream of me being pregnant. When we returned to Section HeadQuarters, Nikita called Madeline a bitch." Michael says in a slow and informing manner. Ayn can't help herself but smile with what Nikita called Madeline. She didn't like what she heard. "And Madeline is keeping her asleep?" Ayn asks softly as she pushes her chair back and stands up. She straightens her outfit as Michael mutters yes. "These nightmares... is the material from experiences before Section?" Ayn asks as she searches for the meaning of what is going on. "Yes. It seems to be mostly from her childhood...." Michael says and then hesitates. "No need to fill me in about her childhood, Michael. I've spent enough time with Operations." Ayn says. "I don't think any of us can know what her childhood was like." Michael says in a cold voice that turns Ayn around to face the sitting Michael. "How many scrambling devices do you have Michael?" Ayn asks. "How many will I need?" Michael asks with a raised eyebrow. "I believe Madeline is hiding what Nikita knows... Nikita must know something about Madeline... We need her awake... and off of the sediatives." Ayn says slowly. "I have enough connections." Michael says softly. "A lot of people in Section owe me favors." Michael says and Ayn nods. "I'm sure you can work with Birkoff... but I would wear one of those all the time." Ayn says pointing to the scrambler. "Our place is suppose to be free from the devices... do I take her there?" Michael asks. "Yes. Then come back to Section. If I leave when the system has odd reactions, Madeline will immediately expect that it is me." Ayn says. "I'll be in touch." Michael says and he picks up the device and turns it off. "So, I will be handling any information on Julie until Nikita is well enough to resume her duties." Michael says with a strong voice. "I will send the reports immediately to your office. That should be no problem. Tell Nikita that I hope she gets better." Ayn says and Michael nods and leaves. Ayn goes back to her desk. She is caught up with the thoughts of what Madeline is up to. Ayn picks up the book that Michael had left and starts to finger through it. She may have screwed with Nikita's emotions. All of that could explain why there are sudden changes in attitudes and the nightmares. Ayn didn't worry about Michael failing in getting Nikita out of Section. That was the easy part. Michael did tell the truth. Enough people in Section owed Michael and Nikita, more than he was aware of. And, if push came to shove, Ayn was convinced that they could push Operations buttons if needed. Ayn sits down in her chair and sighs. In knowing that Madeline is scheming, pushing Operations buttons may be needed *********** Michael strides down the hall in his business like march. He moves directly to the computers where Birkoff is rubbing his eyes and he immediately notices Michael. Michael only raises a finger to his lips before Birkoff can speak. "Can we be secure?" Michael barely whispers. Birkoff looks down at his computers, keys a few numbers in and then looks up at Michael. "Why did you scramble in Ayn's office?" Birkoff demands. "I need a favor." Michael says without answering the question. "Answer me!" Birkoff demands. "It is for Nikita." Michael says in a deep voice that barely makes it out of his throat. Birkoff pulls his glasses back on. "What is Madeline doing this time?" Birkoff asks as he looks over his shoulder. No one was in the glass office. The two operatives were more than clear. "She is keeping Nikita sediated... and it revolves around that book..." Michael says softly. "What can I do?" Birkoff asks without even thinking. Birkoff owed Michael and Nikita a few, and he wasn't going to let Nikita suffer more than she already had. "I need to set up a fake image in the Medlab... a image of Nikita is still there." Michael says and Birkoff rubs his hands together. "That is almost too easy, Michael." Birkoff says with a little grin. "I will be moving with a scrambler constantly on. The longer it takes Madeline to realize that Nikita is gone from Medlab, the quicker I can figure out what is going on." Michael says. An operative is noticed on the left hand side, taking his time crossing infront of the computers. Michael looks up. "Frank... aren't you suppose to be training?" Michael roars out. The operative looks at Michael and then runs down the hallway. Birkoff can only shake his head and look back at Michael. "I'll distract her." Birkoff says with a little smile. Michael is almost disturbed by the smile, but passes on the feeling. "Also, Nikita was muttering about a tape.... see if we have taken in any new tapes recently... I want to see then all." Michael says and Birkoff sits down and starts typing. Michael is about to move away when Birkoff extends his hand and grabs Michael's arm. "Your place... you've been being watched." Birkoff says and Michael almost slams Birkoff out of the chair as he looks down at the computer. "Is it recorded?" Michael asks and Birkoff slowly nods his head up and down. "Madeline's orders?" Michael asks and soon Birkoff nods yes again. "Can we mess with the system so that these orders disappear?" Michael asks looking at Birkoff. "Hello... who are you talking too... no problem." Birkoff says. Michael starts to walks away but quickly returns. "I want copies." Michael says and then he quickly leaves. He was heading to his office to grab the scramblers and then it was time to escape with Nikita. Now knowing that Madeline had activated the devises in the new place, Michael instantly confirmed his dreary thoughts. Madeline knew more than she was telling. *********** Michael walks into Medlab and the door makes a loud clang as it hits the wall before closing. Michael walks into Nikita's room with a bag full of scramblers, half of them activated. If Birkoff is doing his job correctly, his is now using this opportunity to set up the tape of Nikita in the Medlab bed. Michael looks at Walter and moves to Nikita and rubs her face softly. "Leave, Walter." Michael orders as he disconnects the IV line and Walter only stands up. "I said, leave Walter." Michael says in a deeper voice. At this time, the doctor walks in. "What are you doing, Michael? Madeline has left her orders." The doctor says. "You don't see anything. Your monitors this moment don't see anything... when I leave... you will still see Nikita... do I make myself clear?" Michael demands. Michael knows that the doctor wants Nikita off of the medication and he nods and turns around and leaves without even a sigh. Walter just looks at Michael. Walter doesn't need to ask what is in the bag. Michael pulls Nikita's hair up in a ponytail so that it won't tangle on her trip home. "Let me help." Walter says as Michael pulls back the blankets and strips off the heart monitors. "Need not to get you into trouble also." Michael says as he hurries in covering Nikita in a blanket. "I won't even ask what is going on... but technically...you are my superior... I couldn't get in trouble." Walter says with a smile. Michael can only nod. Walter looks inside the bag and shakes his head. "Let me get you some stronger ones... and then I'll make sure the halls are clear." Walter says as he dashes out of the Medlab. The doctor walks back in. "I don't have time.. time is of the essence." Michael says in a rushed voice, that carries the stress of the need to get Nikita out of Section. "I wanted to give you these... when she finally comes around.. she is going to have one killer headache." The doctor explains. He looks at the heart monitors and sighs. He motions a nurse in. She lays down on the bed. He quickly attaches the monitors to her. "You need not do that." Michael says. "Take care of her... plus, our staff needs some extra sleep." The doctor says as he pulls out the medicine. Both men realize that the heart rate is too fast for someone who is suppose to be in a forced slumber. The nurse will have a good dream or two. Michael pulls Nikita up into his arms and he protective places Nikita's head securely on his strong shoulder. Walter walks in, with many more scramblers and hangs one on Michael's neck and another on Nikita's. "Birkoff pulled an Anna is missing on Madeline. She is locked up in her office." Walter says with a wink. "Michael.... Walter..." Nikita begins to moan. "Speak later... let's get you home." Michael says and Walter steps out of Medlab. He looks back at Michael and waves him on. "Birkoff... why are we losing sensors in the hallways?" Madeline asks from her office. "Walter is experimenting with a new scrambler." Birkoff answers and Madeline shakes her head. "I need approval of such tests... god knows, it could be Michael trying to smuggle Nikita out of Section." Madeline mutters. She cuts the line with Birkoff and switches the screen to the camera in the Medlab. There was Nikita, sleeping like an angel. Madeline rubs her head and is about to scream for Birkoff to locate Anna when her office door opens. "Mama... mama..." Anna screams as she runs to her mother. Operations stands in the doorway, with his hands in his pockets. "Did you know that we lose the line on Anna?" Madeline says with a raised eyebrow. "Is that so? Anything else happen?" Operations asks with a smile. "I keep on losing sensors in the hallways... Birkoff says that Walter is testing some new scramblers..." Madeline says in a questioning manner. "In fact he is... I ran into him..." Operations says with a smile. "At least I know where Nikita is." Madeline mutters to herself. ************ Michael softly pushes open the door to the new condo with Nikita in his arms. She sleeps softly in his arms. A few words were muttered during the trip to their home, but Michael was more concerned with Nikita's moving head. Adventually, once he was sure it was safe. He laid her down lengthwise on the front seat, carefully placing her head on his lap. It was the only way to be sure that Nikita's head wouldn't roll right into the door or window. He gently slides Nikita down onto the couch and then goes back to the door. He closes the door as softly as he could and pulls at the bag he carries. The first thing he does is place the bottle of medication that the doctor gave him on the coffeetable. Then, Michael pulls out three scramblers and activates them on the table. He takes the bag and works his way around the house, not leaving an area exposed to be caught. "Mi..chael! NO! NO! NO! NO! I'll be good... please..." Nikita starts to cry out, and Michael immediately goes to the couch. He touches Nikita's wrinkled forehead as she fights the dream and he sits down on the floor. He feels the bad thoughts leave as Nikita's face starts to relax again. He runs his hand slowly down her face, and can feel her long eyelashes flutter along the inside of his palm. Michael pulls his hand away and looks down at the open eyes of Nikita. Because he has been so busy, there is no light but the fading light of the day outside. "I'm home..." Nikita mutters and then smiles. But the smiles causes a chain reaction and she immediately grabs for her head. She begins to rock back and forth. "The pain... ahhhhh... " Nikita moans and Michael whispers softly, "It's ok..." "AAAAAAHHH... too loud... too loud... don't talk..." Nikita cries out as she grabs her head with her other hand. Michael stands up and walks to the kitchen. He opens the refrigerator and grabs a bottle of water. Michael opens the cap, takes a sip of the cool water and then walks into the living room. He opens the medicine and takes two pills out. "Nikita... sit up..." Michael says as softly as he can say as he touches Nikita's shoulders. Her eyes still appear glassed over, but that was caused by Madeline's orders. Michael almost needs to force Nikita's mouth open and for her to swallow the medicine. Nikita settles her head down on the arm of the couch and throws her forearm over her eyes to hide the light out. Michael rubs Nikita's cheek softy as he waits for the pain medication to help Nikita a little bit. Suddenly, Nikita flings off her arm and sits up. As sudden as her movement in sitting up, she starts to swirl for balance. Michael jumps up on the couch and steadies Nikita. "Michael... what is going on? Why do I feel like I've been asleep for weeks?" Nikita asks softly. "Madeline has kept you asleep for almost two days... she doesn't know your gone." Michael says. "What do you mean she doesn't know I'm gone... I'm scared." Nikita says and Michael looks into Nikita's eyes and almost frowns. He knows that in frowning, he allows Nikita to see the negative frame of what is going on. To get her back from Madeline's voo-doo torture, he needed to stay positive. "Scared of what, Nikita?" Michael says with almost a smile. "Find the tape." Nikita says and her eyes start to flutter again. Michael slides up from the couch and places Nikita back down on the arm. He pulls a pillow and places it between Nikita's head and the arm. "Nikita.. I must go back. I hope to bring answers." Michael says as he squats down to looks at Nikita's eyes. Nikita barely nods. "I want you to stay on this couch... do you understand me?" Michael says. Nikita mutters out a yes, and Michael stands. He debates asking Birkoff to keep an eye out on Nikita, but that might be asking a bit too much. Michael looks at the sleeping Nikita again, and then moves out, back towards Headquarters. *********** Ayn pauses briefly in the hallway. She glances at her appearance and then bounces the warm copy of EMOTIONS off of her thigh. She looks at her reflection in the door that leads to Madeline's office. Ayn only blinks before opening the door. The scene infront of her, is not one that he had expected. Anna comes running towards the door and then does the quick 360 once Anna realizes she doesn't know this lady. "Ayn, this is unusual for you." Madeline states as she picks up Anna in her arms and presses the little button on the desk. Ayn stands just inside the door until Mildred enters and takes Anna out of the office. Madeline bends down and picks up a few of the stray toys from the office floor and smiles her trademark Mona Lisa smile at Ayn. "I found your copy.... It got mixed up with some of my things." Ayn says as she reveals EMOTIONS and then sets it on Madeline's desk. Madeline picks it up and lightly rubs her fingers over the edges of the pages. "I thought you did not have it." Madeline says as she opens up her drawer and securely places it next to her shining gun. "I was mistaken." Ayn replies and she sits down in the chair. "But, I was wondering why the intense need for the book." Ayn says with a half smile that makes Madeline turn away. "I needed to consult it." Madeline says with a little blink of her eyes and a slight turn of her head to the side. "Oh?" Ayn asks. It was a classic battle of the minds. It had happened before, and more than likely, would happen again. "Yes." Madeline says with a slight air of superiority. "I just thought that it might have something to do with why you've kept Nikita asleep." Ayn says standing up. She can see the slight letting go of air that Madeline does to release the pressure of hearing the dead on truth. "The only connection that book has with Nikita is that I instructed her to read it." Madeline says in an almost defensive voice. To anyone else, it would have sounded like her normal voice, but Madeline could rarely get one over Ayn, and Ayn could rarely get one over Madeline. "I find that quite odd. Wasn't her last mission with you alone?" Ayn asks as she heads towards the door. "Yes, it was." Madeline says as she turns her head again. Ayn only nods her head and leaves. Madeline is instantly struck with fear. She almost leaps towards the computer to check if Nikita is in Medlab. She sees the image and then turns the computer off. "Birkoff... I'm going down to Medlab.." Madeline says and then Birkoff starts to cough. "But, Madeline... I'm continuing to recieve strange readings in the hallway sensors and Walter has completed all testing..." Birkoff bluffs. Madeline slams her hand into the desk and sighs. "I want to see Walter immediately at your computer station." Madeline says and she quickly leaves her office. ************ The click of the door separating the Section Headquarters from the real world seemed almost too loud to Michael as he stepped into the hallway. It was too crisp. Michael stops and scans the hallway before walking down it. The light at the end of the hallway begins to grow until Michael can make out the outline of three figures at Birkoff's computer area. Michael's mind quickly narrows down the list and suddenly he grows aware of the fact he is happy he left the scrambler in his car. "Michael... why aren't you with Nikita?" Madeline says loudly as Michael emerges from the darken hallway. Michael continues towards the computers and looks at Birkoff. "Birkoff, are those reports on my desk as I asked?" Michael asks without answering Madeline. "I just put them there." Birkoff says as Madeline shifts her weight. "What reports?" Madeline almost demands with a hand placed on her hip. "Work that Nikita will not be able to finish." Michael says staring directly into Madeline's eyes. Madeline glances away, in knowing the real intention of the comment. "Michael, you don't happen to be carrying any scrambling devices with you?" Madeline asks with a slight turn of her head up towards the right side. She studies the smile that now spreads across Michael's face, still tired with the lack of sleep for keeping by Nikita's side. "Madeline, I gave that hobby up a long time ago." Michael says and Birkoff smiles. "It's not like you monitor him!" Birkoff says with a laugh. "Yeah.. can you see if Nikita found out you have video tape of the two of them.." Walter starts until Madeline turns her head sharply at him and glares down. "You still have some, right?" Madeline asks and Michael smiles again. "Why would I devulge that information, Madeline... I never did before." Michael says and he turns and walks to the office. Michael mentally pushes passed his need to glance back at the computer area. He knew if he did that, Madeline would know there was at least a ploy in play if not more. Michael unbuttons his jacket quickly and looks at the small pile of tapes on his desk. They are neatly stacked in date order, but they are only tapes from the devices in the new condo. Michael knew the only information found on these tapes was information that he had already been exposed too. He presses his lips together tightly and slowly lets them go. There is a soft flicker of light and Michael picks up the phone. He needs not to make contact with Birkoff. That flicker was Birkoff sending out the all clear. Michael pulls out the drawer, and activates another scrambler and continues on with the phone call. "Ayn, I have Nikita at home and some tapes of her nightmares." Michael says without a hello. He runs his finger tips down the stack of tapes and licks his lips. "Where is your new place?" Ayn asks and Michael almost smiles. It quickly went through Section about the condo that Operations gave as a wedding gift. Michael slides his hand slowly into his jeans, looking for the chapstick that he used on Nikita which felt like a day ago. In reality, less than four hours have passed. "We are up on the little mountain out of town. Woodrain Place... last condo." Michael says. He pulls out another bag, since he left the other one at home, and starts to place the tapes inside the black bag. "I will be leaving shortly." Ayn informs Michael in a formal voice. Michael raises an eyebrow, but can sense that it must mean someone has entered her office. He pauses. "Madeline.. this is going to have to wait... one of my contacts has urgent information on a current target." Ayn is heard muttering. "I'm leaving now." Michael says in a muffled voice and then hangs up. He pulls the scrambler out of the desk drawer and starts to walk out of Section. Birkoff looks up from his computer. They briefly establish eye contact, but Birkoff quickly goes back to the work at hand. Michael glances up and sees Operations standing in the glass office, standing over the work below. Michael just continues on his journey. If Operations finds out, he will do what is best for his daughter. Michael was sure that Operations would chose Michael's side. *********** The light was brighter than expected, and soon, little droplets of tears run down the smooth skin of Nikita's face. She pushes a hand down on the couch to form some sort of support. The other hand slowly pushes against the bump on Nikita's head. Then, with slow agony, Nikita forces herself up into an upright position. Quickly, her feet touch the carpet on the floor to add a further sense of balance. Again, Nikita tries to focus her bright and shiny blue eyes. "Tape..." Nikita mutters with her soft lips as she leans forward and allows her hands to support her by holding onto the coffeetable. Nikita's head rolls forward and her hair gently falls over her face. The feeling tickles Nikita's face and she giggles slightly. Nikita continues to try to force the fog out of her head. It was hard for Nikita to form one continuous thought, but she bite down on her bottom lip hard and forced her body to a standing position. It might not have been a wise decision, but Nikita took a step forward. She instantly realizes what is wrong with the new place. There were wide open spaces with no walls. She now misses the walls. Nikita almost crosses her eyes, but can see the computer on the dinningroom table. She still hadn't decided why they have a dinningroom, it is not like they have guests or that they eat in it. Finally, taking small shuffling steps towards the table, Nikita's long fingers touch the smooth wood of the cherrywood table. She squints as the light coming from the windows is just to much. Deciding to deal with the light first. She allows her body to fall almost limply against the wall, and pulls on the cord, closing the blinds. "Please be on..." Nikita mutters to herself as she leans her head softly against the windows as she turns left to face the chair and the computer. Nikita easily gets into the chair, but then sets her head down on the wrist pad that Birkoff had given her two weeks ago. Nikita likes it's softness on her forehead and gently closes her eyes. Michael opens the door and checks to his neck to see that the gray scrambler is on. He turns around, and softly closes the door. He sets the bag of tapes down on the little table that Nikita got for umbrellas, for some unknown reason, and moves towards the livingroom. Nikita hears a soft click and then raises her head again to the small session of the world spinning. She places her hands on the keyboard, and finds herself steady again. She moves silently, moved by a need, a compulsion to find this tape. She opens a screen, and moans. There it is, the tape but she can't access it. "ALPHA GREEN SECURITY CODE!!!" The screen flashes at Nikita and she lets her head down on the wrist pad. "Nikita?" Michael calls out softly before he looks over the arm of the couch. He nears not a sound, and then steps to the right. Michael gets a clear picture of the empty couch. Michael frowns and turns around. The dinningroom is darken, and Michael smiles as he sees the soft red blinking from the computer highlight Nikita's blond hair. "Nikita." Michael says as he touches her head. He looks down at the screen and pauses. Nikita raises her head. "The tape." Nikita says wearily, before her head rolls back and Michael catches it softly in his hands. Michael allows the screen to blink, as he peals Nikita out of the chair and carries her back to the livingroom. Now, Michael may have to call in the big guns. ********** Michael walks to the front door to retrieve the tapes that he placed on the umbrella stand, while keeping one eye on Nikita. He had previously tried to go to the bathroom, only to find Nikita back at the computer. He has yet to understand how Nikita got there, or why she continues to go to the same screen, which neither of them have security to enter, but he hoped soon he would know. He sees Nikita shift slightly on the couch. He couldn't be how straight Nikita was thinking, or how time was playing itself out for Nikita. A few minutes here and few minutes there, may seem like hours to Nikita. Once her socked foot lightly touched the carpet, Michael knew Nikita was up to no good. While he carried the bag with him, he grasps Nikita's waist as she tries to dash in after the computer. Michael kisses her ear and sits her down on the couch. "Nikita... we can't use the computer..." Michael says softly as he places the tapes down on the coffee table. Nikita turns her head and stares down at the blue couch. She runs her hands across the grain and Michael can only feel for her. He had no offical idea of what was going on. He only knew whatever was stuck in Nikita's head was not healthy and was eating her emotionally up. Michael moves slightly as a loud knock at the door occurs. Nikita eases down into a laying position, but Michael continues to watch her as he walks to the front door. Michael opens the door, fully expecting Ayn. He turns his head and is almost impulsed to slam the door on the face of Operations. "Nikita is in there." Operations says and Michael smiles. "Well, hello there, Sir. This is unexpected." Michael says as he steps outside and softly closes the door. "I want to know what is going on." Operations says firmly and Michael stares ahead. "I don't understand what you are asking." Michael says as his heart starts to pound faster. Operation's cold eyes stare into the young man and Michael stands tall. "I noticed that Madeline had activated the devices in your place.. and then somehow they were deactivated. Then I saw that copies were made of those devices." Operations says. Michael does not move and continues to look straight into Operation's eyes. "So, I decided to see if you had any idea of why that occured. I saw you were in Medlab with Nikita... but when I got there... you weren't there... and Nikita wasn't." Operations says firmly. "Then where is Nikita?" Michael asks seriously. Operations extends a hand and touches the gray scrambler. "Interesting jewelry." Operations says as a loud crash is heard inside. Michael, more worried about what Nikita did, rushes into the house. Immediately, he knows that Nikita rushed back towards the computer. He turns the corner and sees two chairs of the dinningroom set turned over and Nikita staring at the computer. Michael walks over, picks up the chair and kisses the top of Nikita's head and softly frowns as the message continues to blink. "Did you tell Madeline?" Michael asks Operations as he walks into the dinningroom. "For some odd reason, no, I didn't." Operations says as he steps behind the couple. He slightly turns his head and bends down. He extends his hand and types in ATIKIN and the screen opens. On the list of items, is a tape labeled with the mission call numbers of Madeline's and Nikita's mission. Nikita, still off in her little world, can't even look up at Operations. She silently clicks on the tape and leans back in the chair. The tape runs. It shows just one of the dreams the machine forced Nikita to sleep through. A young Nikita is screaming at a man who is hitting at her. She is yelling, "I must be a better mother than her!" Finally, the man shoves his boot towards her face and she starts to choke. Nikita in real life holds her hands around her neck. "YOU BETTER NEVER BE A MOTHER." The man screams. Michael can't moves his hands to stop the tape. He can only look at Operations. He moves and uses the mouse to pause the tape. "I understand that you have consulted Ayn." Operations says. Michael can only stare down at the screen. Anger at Madeline is starting to only simmer inside Michael, the emotion on the surface was utter shock of what Section has placed Nikita through yet again. "That is right, he has consulted me." Ayn says as she makes her presence known. Nikita looks back at Michael and her eyes close. "Take her to the other room, Michael... Viktor.. leave and help Birkoff." Ayn orders. Both men move silently. Ayn moves to the computer screen and continues to view the video. ************ Ayn flips the computer down and takes a deep breathe. She is filled with complete pain that Madeline allowed Nikita to just come home with no more than a debrief. Nikita should have been kept in Section, no matter how supportive Michael was. Ayn moves to the living room, where Nikita is asleep in Michael's lap and Michael just lifts his head to look at Ayn. Michael shows extreme signs of fatigue, and Ayn is also worried for him. She lifts the bag and sees the various tapes that fill them. It will take hours for her to shift through these, and it would not be possible with Michael and Nikita in the room. "Michael... is Nikita sleeping on her own?" Ayn asks. She immediately wants to know if Nikita was more likely to have a nightmare or not. "I gave her the pain medication. She was fighting it, but it was plainly visable." Michael says as he fights back his own yawn. "Do you have another bedroom, other than your own?" Ayn asks and Michael nods his head with a puzzled look. "Sleep there... both of you." Ayn directs the two. Michael moves and slides his arms under Nikita and heads out of the room. Nikita mumbles a little in her dreamy state, but her eyes maintain their shut position. Ayn pushes the tape in and sits down on the couch. She takes the remote controller and crosses her legs as she views the bedroom, with not a soul in it. Birkoff paces around his computer. Madeline has been meaning to go down to Medlab for a couple hours now, and with Operations who knows where, Birkoff was running out of options. "Birkoff.... I need to go see Nikita in MEDLAB." Madeline says. Birkoff crinkles up his face. Walter is walking by and Birkoff throws a CD at him which connects and breaks apart. Birkoff quickly shoves the duplicate disk into his shirt. "Madeline... I lost the boot disk... Do you have it?" Birkoff says immediately as Walter rubs his head. "What do you mean you lost the boot disk... use the backup and continue on." Madeline says with slight annoyance. "It shattered into pieces... I think an operative stepped on it." Birkoff says in a face-pace voice that echoes worry and panic. Walter stares at Birkoff angerily, but with hearing the words, Walter just shakes his head. "What is going on with you, Birkoff? This is not like you." Madeline says and slams down the phone. Birkoff picks up Madeline storming down the hallway towards the computers, and away from Medlab. Birkoff looks at the computer operative next to him, takes his fingers and dips them into the water. He splashes it across his face and sits down. "Clean up that mess, Walter." Madeline's voice booms from down the hall. Walter shrugs his shoulders and walks away. Ayn sets the remote controller down and pushes her hair back. Madeline had gone against protocol so many times, she didn't have any idea of where to start. Ayn really wanted to start with shaking Madeline to her senses. Something had bothered Madeline, and she was running from Nikita. Nikita must know something that Madeline does not want out. Ayn sighs and knows the task at hand. She could not say it would work. Nikita and her had not established a relationship, and the few times that they had worked together was tense and numbing. Ayn had no true sense of who Nikita was, and Ayn was sure that Nikita did not trust her. Ayn was being called in to clean up after Madeline. Madeline could have spent a couple extra hours with Nikita, and the entire problem would have been solved. Ayn knew, that maybe Madeline had allowed the current attitude of Nikita's because Section did not want to deal with Nikita having a baby, but there would have been a better way. Ayn knew also, that Nikita's problem was now compounded. Emotional trama and then a physical trama. You couldn't ask for anything more difficult than the task at hand. And for Ayn, time was already ticking. *********** Walter stood behind Birkoff, studying the interesting position that Birkoff has frozen himself in. Walter even tried to tempt the young man with Oreos, but that didn't budge Birkoff. Birkoff sat on his chair with both feet firmly planted on the floor, ready to spring up and out if needed. It was like Birkoff was expecting something. His head was almost on top of the computer screen and both of his hands tapped the top of the desk nervously. Walter could see the tension inside the muscles of Birkoff's neck that twitch with every sound. Suddenly, with Michael-like-lightening-speed, Birkoff is halfway down the hallway. Walter pauses in inquiry. He tries to bluff it off, but the feeling in the bottom of his stomache says this is either very important, or it would be a very funny Birkoff moment. Birkoff rounds the corner and runs flush into Madeline, only a few steps outside of Medlab. Birkoff rubs the dress of Madeline as he gains his balance. "I have incoming intel that looks important... thought you'd like to see it." Birkoff says in a rushed voice. "Give it to Michael." Madeline says firmly, and she takes a step around Birkoff, heading closer to Medlab. Birkoff steps back infront of Madeline and gives a childish grin. "Michael is busy. Plus, I think it is more than priority." Birkoff says while nodding his head. Walter leans against the wall, watching Birkoff at work. He might actually get away with it with anyone else than Madeline. "Then give it to Operations." Madeline says becoming annoyed with Birkoff. She again, steps around Birkoff, but Birkoff, almost in a dance, steps infront of Madeline. "Sorry, he is out." Birkoff says with a shrug of his shoulders. Walter looks away, covering the laugh of the statement. It was true, but it was odd. If Madeline believed that Michael was busy, she wasn't going to believe that Operations was out. "Birkoff.... then I will to it when I am done here." Madeline says brushing Birkoff to the side and opening the Medlab doors. Birkoff rushes in after the lady and Walter follows, he felt he needed a couple more laughs. "But Madeline... I think it is about the American president... and I think there was mention of RED CELL... and a bomb.... we might need to send everyone it..." Birkoff starts to ramble as he tries to stop Madeline's progress. And Birkoff even believes he has done so, when Madeline stops. Yet, Madeline, being taller, sees over Birkoff's head and sees a raven haired lady laying in the bed that Nikita has supposively been in for hours. "WHERE IS NIKITA?" Madeline roars as she starts to circle around, looking for the doctor. She moves towards the room, and Birkoff tries to sneak out of the MEDLAB. "BIRKOFF! YOU STAY HERE!" Madeline bellows loudly. Walter snickers again, and turns, attempting on leaving before the yelling starts. "YOU TOO, WALTER!" Madeline says firmly and Walter sighs as he turns around. He almost got away. "When did Michael take her?" Madeline asks but no one moves. No one speaks and this adds fuel to Madeline's fire. "My orders were for her to stay here. Who did not understand that?" Madeline asks and the doctor walks closer to Madeline. "She was medically ok to leave. She didn't need the sediatives anymore." The doctor says softly. "DID I NOT ORDER THAT SHE STAYED SEDATED?" Madeline bellows in a deep voice again. Walter looks at Birkoff and barely shakes his head. "Michael took her." Walter says, and Madeline turns towards him. "He took her when I visited her in the morning." Walter says and Madeline's eyes close to thin slits. "I will deal with you later." Madeline says as she turns to Birkoff. "I could have you cancelled. You meddled with Section's cameras and allowed two of our operatives to escape." Madeline says firmly as she stares at Birkoff. "They went home." Birkoff says, taking a lesson or two that Nikita taught him. "How do I know that? You suspended the use of devices in their place." Madeline says. "And how many scramblers does Michael have in his possession?" Madeline asks. "Probably more than we do." Walter says and he turns his head. "I will deal with all of you when I come back after getting Nikita. Be glad that Operations did not find out first." Madeline says, turning to leave, when the doctor clears his voice. "Operations already knows." The doctor says and Birkoff and Walter look at each other with dual smiles on their face. Madeline turns, and Birkoff and Walter drop their smiles. Madeline brushes past everyone and the doors of Medlab slams outward. "Birkoff... I want immediate contact with Operations." Madeline barks out and Birkoff rolls his eyes to Walter. Walter pats his back and Birkoff walks out. ************ "The BULLS ARE LOCKING HORNS!" An operatives screams as he dashes through the hallways. Walter looks at Birkoff and both lightly smile as they walk towards the computer area. The operatives are gathering in the hallways and some have already started to wager. "4 to 1 that Madeline wins." An operatives says as he waves the fist of money in his hand. Birkoff and Walter dig into their pockets. "10 on Operations!" Birkoff and Walter call out at the same time. "You should have told me that you knew of the plan. Instead you left!" Madeline roars softly, trying not to create a stir. "I went to Michael's and Nikita's to see what kind of damage you did." Operations says without blinking. "I DID! I DID! Michael took her out of MEDLAB and wore scramblers around his neck!" Madeline says as her body starts to tremble slightly. "Madeline, Nikita should not have been sediated as long as she was. I don't like what you have done. I will never allow you to handle a mission in that way again. It went against protocol and has me questioning what you were doing and why!" Operations says firmly as he stares into Madeline's eyes. Madeline takes a step to the side, trying to head out of Section. "Where do you think you are going?" Operations demands loudly. With turning to see Madeline, he becomes aware of the operatives standing around. He hopes someone gets a big payoff. "I'm going to see Nikita." Madeline says firmly, also aware of the operatives. The two powers that be were the main attraction. "No. Ayn is already there." Operations says calmly. He watches Madeline's face run through the shades of red as her anger builds. "AYN! AYN! AYN!" Madeline sputters out. "I will go now and take over." Madeline says after she regains herself. "No." Operations says firmly and Madeline's face drops. "You still report to me, and I say no." Operations says with a firm stare. Walter looks at Birkoff and gives the thumbs up. "Then I'll go in two hours." Madeline says. "Eight." Operations says firmly. "Three." Madeline says, knowing how upset Operations is. "Eight." Operations says just as firm. "You had operatives running around helping Michael smuggle Nikita out of Section. But you punish me?" Madeline says. Operations looks towards the group that Walter and Birkoff are in. "Birkoff... you can't have Friday night off... Walter... I need you to gather the toys that you gave Michael and a full list of what you think he has." Operations says and turns back to Madeline. "Punished. Eight hours." "Four." Madeline says, almost in a plead. Operations smiles at Madeline. "Eight." "FIVE!" Madeline says as her body shakes with terror. "Eight." Operations says as his eyes draw into think slots. He has had it. "That's enough. Eight hours.. or it will be 24 hours. NOW TO MY OFFICE!" Operations roars and the glass from the office vibrates. Madeline sticks her head up, and walks towards the office. "Damn!" The operatives says as he hands the money over to Walter and Birkoff. "You knew what was going on." The operative says accusingly. "I only knew that Michael took Nikita out of Section.. I didn't know that their fight was about that." Birkoff says with a shrug of his shoulders. The operatives start to split apart. "This should buy a good enough gift for Melissa to make up for canceling Friday night." Birkoff says. ************ Ayn slowly walked into the spare bedroom and got a glimpse of the power of love between Michael and Nikita. Michael protectively held Nikita in his arms and Nikita wrapped her feet through Michael's legs. Not a sheet was on them, and both, were in the same clothes that Ayn had found them in. While their eyes are close, they look like peaceful angels, free from the worries and pressures of Section, and free from the worries of their pasts. Ayn softly touched Michael's arm, and he instantly woke up. He kisses Nikita's head of blonde hair and pushes against the blankets to lean against the headboard. He softly rubs his eyes open as Ayn opens her bag. Ayn moved slowly, knowing that Michael more than likely would protest what she proprosed to do. She plugged her instrument in, and then pulled it out of the bag. "You aren't going to attach that on her head." Michael states firmly. Ayn opens her lips in a slight smile. "It will only tell me what state of consciousness Nikita is in. I need her in that fuzzy state." Ayn explains but Michael continues to look on in slight confusion. Ayn knew that the confusion was based basically off of the tiredness that Michael was still experiencing. "I can put it on myself... you can see that it is only monitoring the brain waves." Ayn offers as she lifts up the little crown of sensors. Michael raises his hand and stops the movement of Ayn. "Do you need awake? Sitting up? Me out of the way?" Michael asks in a whisper as he shifts around in the bed. Ayn puts a hand on Michael and keeps him where he is. "I'll be using you to help her. You both are fine where you are." Ayn says softly. She looks down, and Nikita is still fast asleep. "Can you pull her hair back so I don't get this gooey stuff on her hair?" Ayn asks. Michael smiles and gently brushes Nikita's hair back into his hands. He kisses the beginning of Nikita's hairline and looks up at Ayn. Ayn gently places the crown on and immediately turns down the volume of the machinary. "Nikita... I don't want you to open your eyes.. and I don't want you to move... I need you to focus your mind on my voice." Ayn says softly, and she sees Nikita's body jump from the bed. Michael touches her shoulder, and Nikita settles back down. Ayn is not surprized that Michael's slight touch alone sooths Nikita. Nikita's body remains alert, and Ayn realizes that almost every muscles is tight and ready to pounce. "I want you to listen to my voice... I'm going to help you, Nikita... and it won't be easy... but I am here to help you. Do you want help, Nikita?" Ayn says in a slow voice. Nikita nods her head softly and Ayn glances at the sensors to confirm what she believed. Ayn folded her hands. Nikita, intellectually had been thought what was occuring, but Ayn very much doubt she ever saw it. This kind of help was not standard in Section. "Nikita... bad memories will always come back... and we need you to remember them... can you remember one that is not that bad?" Ayn says slowly and Michael crinkles his eyes up. "He threw the cigarette towards my eyes... hoping to blind me... AH..." Nikita says and she starts to cry. Michael looks at Ayn in horror. "Nikita... force Michael into the picture... Can you feel his heart beat?" Ayn asks and she sees the slight nod. "Focus on that heart beat... focus..." Ayn says, and she easily sees Nikita's breathing start to match Michael's again. "Can you picture him.. hugging you... and who else makes you feel good?" Ayn says. "Walter..." Nikita muttes out. "What is Walter doing?" Ayn asks. "Telling a dirty joke." Nikita says and Michael smiles softly. "Anyone else?" Ayn asks. The more people Nikita willing placed in there now, the easier it would be. "Birkie. Sitting at his computer... with oreo crumbs on his face..." Nikita says slowly. "Ok, Nikita. Those are nice images." Ayn says, ready to move on. "Wait.. and Anna... smiling at me.." Nikita adds quickly. "Remember them, Nikita... They love you...." Ayn says and then pauses. "Nikita.. I want you to remember one of the memories that hurt the worst." Ayn says and Michael closes his eyes. "He... another guy... pulled my legs... and tried... but instead... made me.. sleep in the dog house... and a racoon.. or a chipmonk tried to bite my... my... naked..." Nikita says and she starts to tremble and thrash around. "Nikita... remember the good... the heartbeat... do you hear it? Do you hear Michael's heart beat?" Ayn asks, hoping that it has already worked. "He loves me... I hear it... I'm in his arms... Oh, Walter!... I am loved... Michael..." Nikita says as her body physically calms down. Nikita snuggles down next to Michael's chest and Ayn smiles. She walks over and takes the crown off of Nikita's head. "Nikita... we need you to wake up... and be with us. No more pain... only love." Ayn says and she waits. Nikita's eyes softly flutter and open. She groans a little as her tense muscles pull at each other as she tries to relax. She turns her head softly. "I feel a lot better." Nikita says softly. Michael leans down and kisses her forehead. She looks around. "Why are we in this room?" Nikita asks and then she sees Ayn. "thank you." Nikita says softly. ************ Birkoff, sitting at his computer, looked over at the doorway where Walter stood. Birkoff, had not been dismissed since Operations went upstairs with Madeline. At first, all that was heard was screams. Then heated discussion. Then silence. The silence had worried Walter, and that was when he took position where he could view the two from the glass office. Walter still didn't understand why the windows had not been thrown on tinted mode. Other operatives stood around the same area too. Yet again, the operatives where betting on what time Madeline would leave the office. Most of the operatives have already lost their money. Operations was doing a good job. That was until the screaming started back up again. Birkoff, a couple times, ducked, believing that a thrown item would crash threw the glass and head towards the computer he now sat at. Birkoff glanced down at his watch and saw it tick slowly. Madeline and Operations had been up there for five hours. Birkoff looked at Walter. Their time slot was soon going to be passed. SLAM! Birkoff looks up and watches Madeline carefully stomp down the stairs as if in a temper tantrum an eight year old would throw. Madeline pushed the operatives to the side, and headed towards the outside door. The operatives walked over to Birkoff and Walter and started to hand over the money. Operations walked down. "How long?" Operations asks Birkoff, who shoves the money underneath the propped up keyboard. Birkoff glances down at his watch and then up at Operations. "That would be five hours and six minutes, Sir." Birkoff says softly. Operation only nods and turns away. But, showing that he is unsure of his thoughts, stops and turns back. "Has Ayn made contact with us?" Operations asks. "Not through the me. She may have e-mailed you." Birkoff says and Operations walks back up the office. Birkoff turns, and starts to count the money again. Then there is a tapping from the window above him. "Call Michael." The sign reads that Operations holds to the window. Birkoff chuckles as he turns his back from the sign. Madeline and Operations must have really had it out. Operations would have never done that before. Michael stands infront of Nikita with his hands extended to hold hers. Nikita is carefully taking steps towards Michael, but pulls up to a stop as her muscles ache like hot coals had been placed inside them. "Carry her down..." Ayn orders Michael, and within seconds, Nikita's hair floats softly in the air as she sits comfortably in Michael's arms. "You need food." Ayn says and she opens her black bag. She pulls out some sandwich bags and heads towards the kitchen. "What's in the bags?" Nikita calls out. Ayn pokes her head around the corner and smiles. "They are herbs, hopefully will help relax your muscles... it's your brain getting back at you." Ayn says with a soft chuckle. Nikita hears the cubboard open, and she lets her eyelids float down. "NO SLEEPING!" Ayn calls out from the kitchen and Michael laughs as Nikita pulls her eyes up to attention. Suddenly the front door swings open and Madeline storms in. "Cooking when you should be helping Nikita!" Madeline says loudly and Nikita scrunches up her forehead with the noise. Michael does a "ssshhh" to Madeline, who only turns back to Ayn. "Operations is complaining to me about my techniques when he should be getting on you! You haven't helped Nikita at all!" Madeline says loudly. "Yes she has." Nikita says as she looks over at Madeline. Madeline only glances at the livingroom and then back to Ayn. "I will not have you turn my Operatives against me... Nikita?" Madeline says as she realizes whom she saw in the livingroom. Madeline steps away from the kitchen. "Can you leave?" Nikita asks politely. "We must talk." Madeline says firmly and loudly. Michael moves over and kisses Nikita's head as Madeline's voice is everything but comfortable. "Ayn will be taking care of Nikita and this." Michael says and Madeline stares and quickly leaves with a slam of the door. The slam brings tears to Nikita's head, and her entire body wrenches in tight pain. Ayn walks out a few minutes out with steaming rice. She hands it to Nikita. "I'll give my instructions to Michael... now you eat all of that." Ayn says. Michael takes a little bit and then walks towards the door with Ayn. "I see that you have a whirlpool." Ayn says and Michael nods yes. "Get in there and rub her muscles out.. and only that." Ayn says with a slight wink. "I'm too tired for anything more than a massage for Nikita." Michael says with a smile. "She might have some nightmares.. but she it's that conk on the head that is going to hurt her now." Ayn says with a chuckle as she opens the door. "That's all?" Michael asks in disbelief. "It worked... say I'm lucky!" Ayn says and she walks away from the condo. ************ Birkoff sighs as he sits down on his bed in his standby quarters. He can't remember the last time he was in here, but with the war that was happening in the hallways of Section, he wasn't going to be leaving any time soon. Madeline had become like Godzilla or someother odd and mad monster when she arrived back. Not far behind her was Ayn, who was yelling about what Madeline had tried to do on the road. Birkoff just didn't want to know. He had thought the ladies were friends this time, and had teamed up against Operations. Birkoff doesn't even want to think about it. Then, Ayn wouldn't tell Operations exactly what happened at the condo. Ayn said it was a matter of confidentiality. Operations didn't like that statement. Now it was believed that Madeline would agree with Operations since she was upset at Ayn, but every operative inside Headquarters learned quickly that Madeline was more upset at Operations than Ayn. Birkoff had called it quits when all three of them yelled different orders to him about the sensors in the condo. Birkoff threw up his OREOS and walked away. They could be fighting over the computer now, and Birkoff really didn't really care. He learned what he wanted to know. Ayn had helped Nikita, and that was the point of this huge mess out in the halls of Section. Michael rubs Nikita' neck softly as the foam of th whirlpool tickles Nikita. He concentrates on his work, pausing every once in a while to make sure he had not allowed Nikita to fall asleep. "Lift you arm up." Michael says as he touches her right arm. He starts from the shoulder blade and massages down the bicep and down to the forearm. "Are you feeling more relaxed?" Michael whispers into her ear. "Yes." Nikita says with her eyes closed. "You are still awake." Michael says and Nikita playfully turns her head over her shoulder and smiles. "Does this look like I'm awake?" Nikita asks with wide open eyes. Nikita rolls her head down. "Michael?" Nikita asks softly. "What, 'Kita?" Michael says as he rubs each finger softly. "How much longer are we going to be in here?" Nikita asks. "Until you become as stretched as Gumby." Michael says with a laugh. "Well, I'm already a raisin." Nikita laughs softly as she looks at her other hand, wringled with the long soak. "Mmmm... I like it in here... being here for you." Michael says. "I like it here too... just it's better in other circumstances." Nikita says. "Yeah... in other circumstances." Michael mumbles as he moves on to her other arm.
