It was a training mission, nothing very special for Michael and Nikita. They had been so busy with other missions and Section intrigues that neither of them really knew the other 6 operatives they were taking out on this cold crisp day. It didn't really matter. You just did the job. Things had gone well until Nikita slipped on a patch of ice that was covered in snow. She went down hard and landed on her butt, not hurt but very surprised and a bit embarrassed. She was hoping that nobody had seen her go down but a snicker from behind her back told her her wishes were not to be met. Of course, it had to be one of the new people that saw her fall. She gave a little grimace, tried to stand up, slipped again and fell flat on her face. This time, the op broke out into unabashed laughter and even Nikita had to grin at the humor of the situation. The op held out his hand to help her up. The grin on her face should have warned him of what was to come, but he didn't know her well enough to see the devil come out in her eyes. She grabbed and pulled. Instantly, he was down at her side and to make matters worse, she was rubbing snow in his face. It was WAR! :) As they started to through snowballs at each other as fast as they could make them, the laughter continued from each of them. This, of course, brought the other ops out into the open to see what was going on. They quickly joined in the impromptu battle after Nikita threw a few snow balls their way. Sides were quickly chosen, cover accessed and the great Section snowball fight was under way. Michael had been scouting ahead and missed the initial confrontation. As he walked back to the group, he watched with a curious expression on his face. One of almost sadness and regret but it quickly changed to surprise when 7 snowballs caught him all at once. It was every one against Michael but he attacked quickly and accurately. Then it was Michael and Nikita against recruits, everyone against Nikita and then every man for himself. There were ops in the fields, ops in the trees, behind rocks, in gulleys and every place that had cover. Organized, it wasn't but it was something that the 8 people had not had in a long time. IT WAS FUN! :) All too soon, it grew dark and training time was over. As the 8 ops and newly made friends trudged back into Section, they were met by a multitude of curious stares. What had they been up to to be covered in snow? As they walked in shedding coats, hats and gloves, somebody (with a French accent) whispered, "Next time, how about making a snow man?" Nods and smiles were seen all around as each went off to their quarters to shed winter clothing and find some hot chocolate.
