"Nikita's Revenge"
Spoilers for the End of Season Four

This is the real story behind why Nikita destryoed Section one and the ending we never saw. Other than the last paragraph, I don't believe a word of it.

Nikita walked into her apartment, threw her purse and coat onto the coach and stretched long and sinuously. She headed for the kitchen and put the kettle on the stove for a much deserved cup of tea. She sat in a chair with the balconey doors open and a gentle breeze playing with her hair. Her mind began to drift over everything that had happened over the last few days.

It was finally over. Three long years of fear, anger and hatred- over, done, finished. Yes, they were finished. She had certainly fooled them all. They thought she was so pliable-- to love, to threats, to drugs and worse, but in the end, they were the ones that had been manipulated and destroyed.

She closed her eyes and her mind drifted even further back, back to the very beginning--over 4 years ago. The manipulation, on their part, had started that far back. The lies and manipul;ations to get her into Section. The reasons why still weren't clear to her, the set up in the alley that put her on the scene when the cop was killed, her suicide in prison and recruitment into Section. But, if nothing else, she was a survivor. Had to be with her background on the streets. So she excelled in training, quickly seeing what needed to be learned. She also saw the one called Michael, watching, evaluating, waiting. Madeline hadn't bothered her, too much, and it was kind of fun trying on the clothes and make up. Walter was an easy read, just a dirty old man with his heart in the right place. Birkoff, a cyber geek without a clue about the real world.

She knew Operations didn't like her, the why was unclear, soshe just learned to stay out of his way.

It wasn't until that first mission that she realized that they were all faker, all manipulators who really didn't care a thing about her. The lies started with Operations and Madeline but Michael continued them during the drive to the restaurant, dinner, the sweet talk pretending interest and then THE GIFT. To think, he knew of the bricked up window but wanted to see if she could improvise. Any fool who couldn't improvise didn't survive long on the streets. But she let it slide after he took her to the apartment. Even with the tacky leather furniture, it was hers and she had some freedom from the all. But she was also smart and waited for the other shoe to fall.

It didn't take that long and the list was endless-- Adam Chandler and the street kids he sold into bondage, Perry Bauer and the release of El Virus into the office building even after she warned them, Eric's attempt to free her from Section and finding out that she was under surveillance, Michael's attempt to seduce her with that ridiculous hand dance. Each time, the lies and manipulations got worse but she was able to maintain her owns morales--always protecting the innocent, the street kids, Rudy, Lisa Fanning--until Premiere Mijovich, when she was forced to kill a man to protect a rapist and killer of women and children.

That was the beginning on the end. She had to find a way out--even if it meant her own death. She couldn't kill Stanley Shays in cold blood and knowing that Section would never let her go was the final straw. What did Madeline think, that she wanted a sugar coated lie to her question of life after Section? She still didn't really understand Nikita. She's had every intention of killing herself but Michael's knock stopped her-- self preservation or a chance to get back at Section? She let him keep her going for one more mission, maybe she could get Stanley out. But in the end, even that was impossible.

Stanley was dead, the team expendable. When Michael signaled her. she tool the out and never looked back. She was free, of the lies, the manipulations, the death. It was over.

Oh, to be that naive again. Center must have been watching her from the very beginning to catch her that fast. She remembered Mick, Mr. Jones, from the lost directory and Benkov. What a little weasal he was then. And what a surprise to find out that he was the boss of Section, Oversight and Center! Now, there was a man who could keep a secret.

Manipulate and lie to Section, be able to bring them all to their knees? Could she bring it off? You're damn right she could and not think twice about it! To get back at them for every hurt, tear, broken heart and lost dream. In triplicate! Quadruplicate! Oh, you get the picture. They thought she was a little do gooder without a back bone. The surprise would be theirs!

The hard part was coming up with a plausible scenario to return to Section without raising too many questions. She understood that there would be no rescue from Center if she was found out and then her life would definitely be over and not soon or pain free, but the end's justify the means- right?

Michael was sucked right in. He was SO easy. Stroke that male ego and they come running, everytime. He didn't listen well, either.

"I thought I'd lost you." he said.

You never had me. If only you'd been truthful and honest from the beginning, then maybe it would have been different.

She thought she acted the scenario out rather well. Of course, the beating hurt but she just kept thinking of the end game. Jurgen was a surprise, don't think even Mr, Jones knew about him, but as usual, stroke that ego and he melted in her hands. And why Opeations and Madeline bought into her story still puzzled her. It was so thin and full of holes, she was amazed no one figured it out. But she was back and accepted as a full member of Section One--no questions asked.

It was a hard year. She was constantly on the alert for any clue that the gig was up. Then there were the times like the Armel mission that were more difficult. Madeline telling her to sleep with Michael- get real! And know Michael, he probably was the father of Terry's baby. What did he care, Section would take care of any result from that pregnancy, not to mention Terry for being stupid enough to get pregnant in the first place. Speaking of Terry, when Mr. Jones had showed up as Mick, it was all she could do not to laugh in his face. God, that man was good.

She wasn't sure how Adrian figured into the whole picture. Was Center aware of her? They had to be, they knew everything. Maybe it was an easy way out for them to let someone else try to bring Sectioln One down. It was too bad how it ended. But then, even she had manipulated Nikita, what with Carla showing up. Someone else she had thought was a friend only to be duped.

She saw the hatred in Operations eyes when she questioned him. She also knew there was no way to win and had to let Adrian be led away. Even though she said differently to Michael, she WAS afraid. She wasn't done yet. She had more to accomplish and Section was still standing. She couldn't quit until it was dust under her feet. It couldn't be over until she said it was over.

The first month was difficult. They were doing their damndest to kill her. It was so obvious, Deshie, Pierce and Pollack all dead, the missions she kept getting sent on were more frequent and more difficult, poorly planned without a back up. If she wanted to accomplish her goal, she had to get this under control.

What a surprise for her to meet Elena and Adam. So even Michael could keep secrets, not to mention Walter and Birkoff. But again, all she had to do was crook her finger and Michael came running. Her future was secure with the added bonus of seeing Michael's heart ripped out with the loss of his wife and son. They were better off without him anyway. Isn't that what he told her about Gray and his daughter?

But time was running out. She needed to get all of the pieces into place. The relationship between Operations and Madeline was in a shambles since she had to kill her husband. A stroke of luck that Charles had said to contact Madeline. And Operations affair with Rene was icing on the cake. Getting rid of Birkoff by his own hand was a surprise and his replacements in Quinn and Jason were easy to get around. Walter was just Walter, eating out of her hand everytime she smiled his way. She certainly had Michael tied up in knots.

But the game wasn't over. The Gelman process almost brought her down. Thank God, Mr. Jones stepped in when she hadn't reported to him after a few months. He was able to atleast waeken the effects of the process by dribbling water on her floor instead of the chemicals they had given to 'Mick'. It was just so hard to think anymore. It was like being encased in jello. No wonder people called her 'Robo kita'. She felt like one.

For once, she was thankful for Michael's attention. Mr.Jones couldn't help her anymore and she couldn't see any other way out. Seeing Adrian, again, had scared her. She certainly didn't want to end up as a vegetable. Deep in her mind, she was waiting for Michael to make his move so the attack didn't come as much of a surprise. But the look on his face when she spit the drugs back at him was priceless. Maybe, if he had been that assertive as when he forced her to take the drug, things might have been different. She'd certainly felt that move down to her toes!

************

But it was not to be. She played the game with him one more time through the detox and beyond to the point that she got him to kill Davenport and leave Section with her. The place was in an upraor. George was dead. Missions left undone for lack of personnel.

One more time, she returned to Section One but this time THE SMILE was one her face. She knew the machinery was rigged. She wouldn't die but Section would.

Operations to remain behind for 7 years. Like he would ever change and move to Oversight? Not bloody likely.

Madeline took the easy way out. After inflicting so much pain, too chicken to take a little of her own medicine?

Walter retired to The Farm

Birkoff dead and his brother finishing his life sentence.

Michael in abeyance.

Finally, it was over. She was done. She had finished what she'd set out to do those many years and tears ago. They were ruined, never again to lie, manipulate or control others.

She slowly came back to the present. The sun had set and the breeze against her skin was cool. She was alone. Oh so totally alone, never to her the knock on her door or the voice on the phone. Never to hear the "Hi sugar, what's shakin?"or play computer games and eat oreos in com. She put her hand to her face and only then realized that she was crying. Only then, did she realize what she had lost.
