The Jeep brand name was born out of vehicles developed during the second world war known as GP or general purpose vehicles. At the end of the war such vehicles were ideal for farmers or ranchers, so was born the Jeep brand and the start of Civilian Jeep vehicles.
Jeep started in production with the CJ-2A in 1945 that built on those early military vehicles and bore the classic marks of the vertical slotted grill, upright windscreen and distinctive shape that has endured to many of today's Jeep models. What a useful vehicle they proved to be, winning admirers in sections of civilian service.
The CJ-3A came in late 1948 and is identifiable with a single piece windscreen but had also strengthened transmission and drive train. The CJ range goes up to the CJ-10 but was eventually superceded by the wrangler in 1987
