Michael had just finished putting Adam to bed. He smiled as he shut the door and leaned against it. His toes were still curled from kissing Nikita. She made him feel...he sighed. He couldn’t even describe the feeling he had when she was around or when he thought of her.

His mother tapped him on the shoulder. He opened his eyes and looked at her smiling face with questioning eyes.

“Why do you look like you just swallowed a canary?” She asked him.

“No reason.” He responded.

“It wouldn’t have anything to do with Nikita would it?” She pressed playfully.

“Goodnight Maman. Sleep well.” He said softly kissing her softly on the cheek before heading to his own room.

She smiled as she shut the door. Her son deserved to be happy.

Michael sighed as he went to bed. He smiled as he dreamt of Nikita the whole night.

************

Michael woke up to Monique shaking him awake. He groaned as he rolled over to his side trying to get away from her hand. He opened his eyes as he felt her breath on his face.

“Monique, what is it?” He asked annoyed.

“Maman told me to wake you up. She said someone was downstairs.” Monique said smiling. “I think it was Mick and Lizzie was with him.”

“Okay, I’ll be right down.” Michael said softly. He got up and slipped his jeans over his boxers. He yawned as he went to brush his teeth. He ran a hand through his bed matted head and nodded slightly when it was somewhat tamed.

He went downstairs and saw Mick holding his crying sister. He swallowed as he saw the bruise on Mick’s hand. He shook his head in anger at Mick’s father.

“Mick.” He called out softly.

“I didn’t know where else to go.” Mick looked at his friend and smiled sadly.

“It’s fine. Are you alright?” Michael asked concerned.

“I’m okay. Lizzie saw it all. She is really scared.” Mick said his voice breaking slightly.

“I think I know some people that can help. Monique, Adam, can you both come here please.” Michael said smiling at his friend.

He and Mick and Birkoff had become good friends. Michael had found out that even though Mick was annoying as all hell, he had serious problems. He had an abusive father and he usually bore the brunt of that abuse to spare his sister the pain.

“What is it Michael?” Monique asked Adam following her into the room.

“I want you to go outside and play with Lizzie.” Michael said as he bent and whispered in his sister’s ear.

Monique had tears in her eyes as she looked at her friend. Her Daddy was bad too. She smiled at Mick. At least she had a big brother like Michael. Big brothers always took care of you no matter what. She went to Lizzie and took her hand and told her so.

“Come on Lizzie. It’s going to be fine. Michael and Mick are big brothers, it’s their job to keep us okay. They are like Superman. Let’s go play.” Monique said.

“Okay Monique. I love you Micky.” Lizzie said hugging her brother before following her Monique and Adam.

“What happened?” Michael asked looking at Mick’s hand and split lip.

“Lizzie spilled milk on the rug. He was about to hit her and I stopped him. I can’t stay there Michael. He isn’t our real dad. He was so different when my mum was alive now it’s just a nightmare. Since I’m 18 I have Lizzie as my responsibility.” Mick said softly.

Michael glanced at his mother as she went to Mick with stuff to fix his lip and hand. He smiled softly at her as she tended to his friend.

“This is going to hurt a little bit.” She blew on his hand as he winced. “Mick you and Lizzie can stay here for as long as you need, we have room and it won’t be a problem.”

“Ms. Sand I couldn’t.” Mick said as she bandaged his hand and moved to his lip.

“Mick don’t be stupid. Where the hell are you going to go? Just stay here until you figure out what to do. Lizzie will have someone to play with and someone who understands. As for you, you need a friend who has been there and knows what it’s like.” Michael said.

“Well when you put it that way.” Mick said smiling his thanks as Madeleine as she finished.

“I really appreciate this.” Mick said tears pooling in his eyes.

Michael glanced at his friend and saw all the emotions and feelings he knew he once had in his eyes. He went over to Mick and in a rare display of emotion hugged his friend.

“It’ll be okay , Mick.” He said looking at his mother. He closed his eyes sure that she saw the pain reflected in his.

****

“Is he okay?” Nikita asked softly.

“He will be it’s just going to take time. When we went over to get his stuff his father just let him go. Not so much as a word. He didn’t even care. I think that hurt Mick the worst.” Michael said swinging the bench they were sitting on gently.

“I understand. When my mom let me go she didn’t even look back. It took me a while to get over that.” She said softly.

“That is what I don’t understand. How could you care about somebody who doesn’t give a damn about you. Mick's dad treated him like shit. From the little bit’s you have told me your mother was ten times worse and yet you still cared what she thought.” Michael said bitterly.

“Even though she didn’t care, she was my mom, Michael.” Nikita said glancing at him.

“You must have cared what Charles thought?” she asked hesitantly.

“At first but then I could give a damn what he thought, he forfeited those rights long ago.” Michael said softly but with a voice of steel.

Nikita turned to face him. His face was blank. His eyes bright with anger and memories. She took his hand in hers and leaned forward kissing his cheek. She felt him squeeze her hand gently. He turned his head and their lips met. He wrapped his arms around her and deepened their kiss. His tongue brushed against her lips seeking entrance into her mouth.

She opened her mouth and felt his tongue enter and mate with hers desperately yet gentle. She moaned as one of his hands lowered to her hip. She started as she heard a throat clear loudly. When she opened her eyes her father and Madeleine were standing in front of them.

“We were heading out to take the kids to eat. Mick is staying here. You two want to join us?” Paul said looking at his daughter then at Michael.

“I don’t think so. Michael and I need to have an important conversation.” Nikita said softly.

“Okay, sweetie. See you later.” Paul said his eyes begging Nikita not to do anything stupid.

“See you Dad. Bye Ms. Sand.” She said waving.

“Bye Nikki. Michael hold down the fort.” Madeleine said in silent warning.

“Of course Maman. have a nice lunch Mr. Wolfe.” Michael said still slightly flushed.

Nikita watched as they left. She turned to Michael. He was looking down a slight shake in his shoulders. She smiled as she realized he was laughing. At least his serious mood was gone.

“So Michael Samuelle I believe you said we had some things to discuss.” Nikita said kissing his knuckles.

“Yeah. We do. I want you to know I didn’t plan this.” He said gesturing to their intertwined hands.

“I know.”

“Good and I want to go slow. First I don’t want to ruin this and I don’t want another Adam running around. I love my son but I’m not ready for another child. And when we kiss like that things can get a bit carried away, trust me.” Michael said softly a smile on his face as he stroked her hair.

“I know and I do trust you. Do you think I would let you kiss me like that if I didn’t.” She said smiling. “So are we really together?”

“If we want to be.” He said his hand playing with her fingers.

“I want to be, more then anything.” Se said smiling as he tickled her palm.

“Me too.” He whispered his lips inches from hers.

“It’s going to take a lot of work. It won’t be easy.” She said.

“I know. We just take it one day at a time and see what happens.” He said nuzzling her neck. He looked at her and smiled as he kissed her gently. He closed his eyes and prayed this worked out.

Nikita sighed and held him close as they kissed never wanting to let him go.

************

“He is just like you. It’s scary.” She commented talking about Adam as they walked in the house.

“I know. You should see when he acts like Elena though. That’s even more amusing. He gets all serious. ” Michael replied as he saw Mick in the kitchen drinking some milk.

“Hey Mick.”

“Hi. They left?”

“Yeah. We wanted to know if you wanted to go to the movies and then to Gray’s party tonight?” Nikita asked sitting down at the table.

“I don’t know Nikki. I’m living here now and I don’t want Ms. Sand watching Lizzie all the time. Especially if it’s for me to go to a party.” Mick said sitting next to her.

“It’ s not a problem Mick. I asked her if we could go while you were getting cleaned up this afternoon. Believe me it’s not a problem. She loves kids and she loves getting the chance to baby-sit Adam. She also told me that she wanted you to get out and have a little fun.” Michael said offering Nikita a glass of juice.

“You sure?”

“Yes, as long as we are back for early morning kitchen duty.” Michael replied smiling.

“Cool. I need a night out. Maybe get me a nice bird or two.” Mick said smiling widely.

“Mick, you are such a pig. They are called girls for heaven’s sake.” Nikita said drinking her juice.

“I know. I just love to bug you. So any chance you wanna pair up with the Mac of love?” Mick smiled at her innocently.

“Sorry Mick. I’m going with the French Lover over there. Besides Gail has been itching to get in your pants. She said something about missing you.” Nikita retorted.

“Cool. I miss her too. She can do the most exquisite thing with ice.” He smiled as Nikita held up her hand.

“Ew Mick. That is just too much info. Now I’m registering a major icky factor. Thank you very much.” Nikita said her face scrunching up .

“You know friendship is the best therapy. I’m gonna be okay as long as I got my nearest and dearest with me.” He said grasping Nikita’s hand in his.

“You are gonna be just fine Mick.” Michael said softly.

************

Michael, Nikita, and Mick got to Gray’s party after watching the 7o’clock movie. The music was blaring and many people were swaying to the beat. As Mick went to go find Gail, Nikita grasped Michael’s hand as Carl approached them.

“Hey Nikki. I wanted to know if I could have a dance.” He asked looking at her and Michael’s intertwined hands.

“Sorry Carl. I’m here with Michael.” Nikita said passing by him as Michael led her to Chris and Birkoff.

“Hey guys.” Birkoff said as he noticed Michael and Nikita standing close together.

“Nikki!” Carla’s voice rang out. “He finally got a clue!”

“Has she been drinking?” Nikita asked as Carla walked towards them.

“A little. Don’t look at me like that. She is just like you when it comes to telling her what to do. She is okay. I was waiting for you to calm her down.” Birkoff responded sweetly.

“ So Michael you finally bit the bullet and asked her out?” Chris said throwing Michael a soda when he declined a drink.

“Something like that.” Michael replied as he felt small hands pinch his butt. He turned around and was met with the face of Andrea.

“Hey handsome. I heard that you and Nikki are a couple. That’s good but I’m more of a woman then she will ever be.” She said softly pressing her hips to his grinding to the music.

“Hi Andrea.” Nikita said pulling him towards her.

“Hi.”

“Wanna dance?” Nikita asked him caressing his neck.

“Sure. Bye Andrea.” He murmured falling into Nikita’s caress.

They began to dance close to the slow song. Nikita rested her head on his shoulder. She rubbed his shoulder blades slowly. He smelled so good and he was so warm. She sighed and pressed herself firmly against him.

“Thank you.” He whispered

“For what?” She asked.

“Nikita she was gonna eat me right there. You saved my life.” He stated dramatically.

She smiled and snuggled against him again. She lost track of time as they danced. All she knew is that she felt safe in his arms. He held her close but didn’t have any wandering hands.

Michael sighed as he held her in his arms. She smelled like lavender and her hair was like smelling a bed of roses. She was nestled against him and he noticed her breathing becoming a little uneven. He glanced at her and frowned as he saw tears.

“Nikita? What’s wrong?” He asked. His eyes etched with concern.

“It’s stupid.” She said sniffling and wiped her tears away before laying her head on his shoulder hiding her face in his neck.

“Nothing you ever tell me is stupid. Talk to me.” He pushed gently.

“I feel safe.” She whispered.

“Safe? I’m flattered that you feel that way.” He said kissing her hair and hugging her close. He sighed as the song ended.

When they got to their friends Nikita held out her hand for a drink. She smiled and glanced at Michael. He smiled and wiped away her remaining tears.

“You know that won’t take problems away.”

“I know. I just like the taste besides I never have more then one. Wait a second in France aren’t you like allowed to drink at twelve?” She asked.

Michael held up his hands in surrender. He had to admit she had a point he wasn’t a saint and he surely never drank. He smiled and took her hand, kissing her knuckles.

“Where’s Mick?” Carla asked sitting on Birkoff’s lap.

“I think they went to Gail’s car. You know privacy sucks at Gray‘s party‘s.” Birkoff said smiling at her.

“Remember that time Jack had that college girl here and they went to Gray’s room and they walked in on Terry and Chuck. I thought Terry was gonna kill Jack.” Chris said giggling.

The group smiled as a song came up everyone whooped and headed for the living room intent on dancing the night away.

****

Michael yawned as they listened to the football team trading sex stories. He glanced at his watch and looked around for Nikita. He had won their bet. He smiled as he remembered her face when he went of to go mingle. She had bet him that he couldn’t mingle with anybody because he was shy.

Nikita was watching out for him and smiled in wonder. He went to her and bent his head to claim his prize. He kissed her warmly. His tongue touching hers and teasing her mouth. He pulled her close as she sighed.

“I win.” He said softly as they pulled apart.

“We win.” Nikita replied smiling.

“Uh oh someone get a fire extinguisher. Their is a hazardous situation here.” Jack called out smiling.

“Go away, Jack. We are having a moment.’ Nikita said not looking at her friend.

“I would but Mick is looking for you, Michael.” Jack said smiling at his friend. “Now go so I could dance with my favorite blonde.”

“Don’t break anything.” Michael said jokingly as he stoked Nikita’s cheek.

“Okay. I promise.” Jack said twirling Nikita around and she giggled.

“Hey Mick, what’s up.” Michael said as he popped some chips in his mouth.

“I just wanted to know if you wanted to go home?”

“You don’t wanna stay? The party’s still going on.” Michael asked.

“Not really. I know you probably want to relish this and all but I miss Lizzie. I know it’s late but- ”

“It’s alright Mick. I miss Adam too. I’ll go ask Nikita, give me a minute.” Michael said smiling.

Mick watched him go to Nikita and whisper in her ear. She smile touched his cheek and nodded. She grabbed his hand and they walked to Mick. She smiled at her friend.

“Let's go say bye to everyone.” She said.

****

The teens said good bye and made their way to the car. Nikita played with Michael's fingers as he drove.

“I’m sorry guys.”

“Don’t worry Mick. I was getting tired anyway.” Michael responded.

They drove the rest of the way in silence. When they arrived home Michael parked his car in the driveway and turned off the car. He smiled at Nikita.

“I’m going to walk Nikita home, I’ll be in in a minute.” Michael said to Mick as they got out of the car.

They walked in silence and as they approached her front door she smiled and turned to him. She took his hands in hers and stepped closer to him.

“Thank you for a wonderful evening. I’ve always wanted to say that.” She said smiling.

“You are very welcome.” He grinned. “I better go.”

She sighed as he stoked her cheek softly. Her eyes closed as his face drew closer to hers. She kissed him as his lips touched hers. His were soft and warm and they yielded to hers. She held him as she controlled their embrace. She pushed her tongue into his mouth and he sighed pulling away. His forehead against hers he held her close.

“Sweet dreams Nikita.” He whispered.

“G’night, Michael.” She said as she held his hand until he walked away. She smiled as he waved and went inside her house.

****

Michael was laying in his bed almost asleep when Mick called his name. They were sharing a room until his mother fixed up the spare room. He looked over to the bed beside his.

“What is it Mick?” He asked sleepily.

“I just wanted to tell you something. Nikita has this thing about dancing close to people. It is one of the side effects she has form living with her mother. That and well you know... doing the deed.” Mick said hesitantly.

“Why are you telling me this Mick.” Michael asked.

“Because she won’t. She let you hold her closer then anybody before you. I just thought you’d like to know.” He said softly. “Good night.”

Michael lay there contemplating what Mick had said. Safe . She needs to always feel that way. I’m just glad she feels that way about me. He thought to himself. He also recognized Mick’s subtle warning.

“Goodnight, Mick, and don’t worry I won’t hurt her.” Michael said softly as sleep claimed him.

************

“Tag Daddy! You’re it!” Adam yelled as he ran full speed away from his father. He giggled as he and Monique almost collided with each other.

Michael ran after them on his knees smiling at the smile on Lizzie’s face. She had a nightmare and Monique’s suggestion that they play tag was working on making her smile.

“You can’t catch me, Michael!” Lizzie shouted running away from him quickly.

“I almost had you.” He said as she rushed past him.

They ran around giggling ducking and dodging from Michael. They were having so much they didn’t notice a group of people watching them. Michael saw Nikita out of the corner of his eye and he sighed inwardly.

“Okay, you guys wore me out. Why don’t we take a break. Five minutes and then we will continue. I need to rest.” Michael said laying flat on the grass.

“Last one to get some juice is a rotten egg!” Monique said as they all ran to the kitchen where Madeleine had juice for them.

“Poor baby.” Nikita muttered as she sat next to Michael.

“Don’t make fun of me. Those kids have Energizer batteries inside them. I really am tired. I don’t even get this sleepy when I play soccer.” He said grabbing her hand in his.

“Maybe you just need to work out more.” She replied smartly.

“Mhmm. Are you complaining?” He asked softly.

“Never,” she stated sliding her body over his as she kissed him hard. Her hands ran down his chest and lowered to his stomach. She caressed him as her tongue danced inside his mouth playfully. She heard him moan and she smiled inwardly. She felt his hands caressing her back softly.

Michael groaned and felt lightheaded at her ministrations. He stroked her back as they kissed, his lungs screaming for oxygen, but he kept kissing her. He moaned as he pulled away slightly. He knew he was hard and he knew that she knew. He smiled shyly at her knowing grin.

“We better stop. There are kids here and I don’t think I could control myself if we keep going.” Michael said softly his accent pronounced.

“Okay.” Nikita said laying her head on his chest. Her fingers stroked his chest as they caught their breath. “You have to speak French to me so I could learn.”

“You want to learn French?” He asked incredulously.

“Yes, don’t sound so surprised. I want to know when you are talking about other girls.” She said playfully.

“Okay however, you don’t have to worry about me and other girls. You have my complete attention.” He said.

“Are you sure you are a guy?” she asked looking at him funny.

“What do you mean?” He asked back his eyes puzzled.

“Most guys are just into the ‘wham -bam, thank you ma’am.’ You are different. You aren’t gay are you. I mean I know you have Adam and all-” She said playfully.

“It’s kind of late to be asking those kinds of questions.” He said laughing. “Besides do you think I would be acting this way if I was gay. Trust me you have nothing to worry about.”

“Good. So tell me how was your night?” She asked holding his hand.

“Okay, Mick and I talked for a while. Then I had a dream about you. Which had me wake up with a smile.” He said looking at the sky.

“Oh you are smooth.”

“I try.”

“Michel, we’re ready!” Monique shouted as they raced down to the yard.

“Duty calls. Talk to you later.” Michael sighed reluctantly slipping from their embrace after he kissed her nose.

Nikita sat up and smiled as she saw him play happily with the kids. She hugged herself and sighed as she walked into the house to help Ms. Sand.

************

“Hey.” Michael said as he leaned on the locker beside Nikita’s. He smiled at her and helped her lift her backpack onto the hook.

“Thank you.” She replied kissing him softly.

“Anytime. So how was your date with your dad?” He asked as she fished out her books.

“It was okay. I had fun. Sorry I had to cancel last minute. I had totally forgotten.” She stopped as she felt his finger on her lips silencing her.

“It’s okay. I think it’s good that you and your dad spend time together. As long as it’s never another guy you can always go out and do your own thing. As long as you let me.” He added smiling.

“Well as long as it’s not another girl.” She stated wryly.

“No worries. C’mon I’ll walk you to class. Did you study for that physics quiz today?” He asked grabbing her hand. He felt her tense up and he looked at her.

“Damn. I knew I forgot something.” She said softly. “After school can you buy me some ice cream I think I need some comfort food.”

“No problem. Here we are. I have to get going. I’ll see you later and don’t stress out. Everything will be fine.” He said kissing her quickly and went to his Lit class.

****

Nikita sighed as Michael had his arm around her talking to Birkoff about some soccer game and Carla was talking with Gail about shopping. Nikita didn’t know what was wrong. She just had this bad feeling and she couldn’t get rid of it.

“So are you gonna try out for the hockey team?” Birkoff asked Michael.

“Maybe, if basketball doesn’t run into it. I can’t believe soccer season is over with. We have our last state division final Thursday. Then when win we have tryouts for basketball and then two weeks until winter break.” Michael said drinking his milkshake.

“Well find out from Walter. We need some good players this season.” Birkoff said.

“So how does it feel to be dating for a year?” Gail asked Carla.

“It feels great.” Carla said grabbing Birkoff’s hand when he smiled at her.

“If you would have asked me a year ago that’d I’d be seeing her for a year I would have laughed in your face. Now I can’t imagine a year without her.” Birkoff stated blushing slightly.

“To Carla and Birkoff.” Nikita said smiling raising her glass of milkshake at the happy couple.

“Thanks you guys. Well Birkoff you better get me home or our year anniversary will consist of me being grounded.” Carla said waving at her friends as Birkoff got up.

“Bye guys.” Nikita said.

“I gotta go meet Mick at the library. Can you believe him at a library? Michael I think you are rubbing of on him. He is starting to care about things like studying.” She stated laughing.

“Glad I could help. Drive carefully and tell him he’s got dish duty tonight.” Michael said as he waved bye.

“Bye Gail.”

“So are you going to tell me what is bothering you?” Michael asked looking at his girlfriend.

“What are you talking about, Michael?” Nikita asked.

“You are usually the social butterfly. I think I talked more then you today. Are you okay?” He asked concerned.

“What just because I didn’t feel like conversation today something has got to be wrong.” Nikita said.

“No. You are just acting funny is all. Why don’t you just talk about it.” HE said paying for their drinks.

“Just because I don’t have a constant behavior pattern like you doesn’t mean something’s wrong Michael.” She snapped.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked his eyes narrowing slightly.

“Nothing. Just take me home.” She stated.

“Fine.” He said sharply as they walked out of the diner.

****

They drove in silence. Michael would glance at Nikita form time to time and her gaze never wavered from the window.

“Nikita, please, just tell me what’s wrong.” He asked softly.

“Michael, nothing is wrong. Can we please just drop it.” She pleaded.

“Okay.”

She closed her eyes at his hurt tone. She didn’t know what was wrong. Ever since the weekend she had had this feeling and it had gotten worse. She was taking it out on him and he was just trying to help. She sighed as he pulled up to her house. She looked at him and saw his gaze fixed straight ahead. She looked down at her hands and sighed.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what’s wrong. I just...I don’t... Michael, I just can’t describe what’s wrong. It’s not you and me, it’s something else. I’m sorry I was being such a witch. Please don’t be mad at me.” She finished softly taking his hand in hers.

“I’m not. Just don’t shut me out. Whenever you are ready to talk, I’m here.” He said caressing her cheek. He sighed before his lips met her in a soft demanding kiss. He pried her lips open and caressed her mouth with his tongue. His hands lingered on her hips. They broke apart at a knock on the window.

“Nikki, I’ve been waiting for you.” Paul said as he smiled at her.

“Hey dad. Michael we’ll talk later.” She said squeezing his hand.

“Yeah. I’ll call you.” He whispered kissing her cheek softly. “Hi, Mr. Wolfe.”

“Hi Michael. Sorry to interrupt.”

“It’s okay. I’ll see you later.”

“Bye.”

Michael pulled out and sighed. He hated getting caught kissing by Nikita’s dad. He always had this look in his eyes. Michael shook his head and hoped that whatever was bothering Nikita would finish soon. He hated seeing her so upset.

************

“Nikki, you and Michael haven’t-well you know.?” Paul asked his daughter as they went inside the house.

“No Daddy. We haven’t had sex. We had a little argument and I treated him bad. I was just saying sorry.” She replied amused. “That didn’t look like talking sweetie. It looked like you were inhaling his tongue.” Paul commented dryly.

“I was.” Nikita said mischievously at him.

“Please don’t tell me things like that. It makes me want to lock you up in your room forever.” He said serving them dinner.

“So why were waiting up for me?” She asked eating the mashed potatoes and chicken.

“We have to talk. I got a letter from your mother today.” He said softly.

“My mother. What does she want?” Nikita asked her hand stopped at the front of her mouth.

“Eat and then we will talk about it.”

“But Dad-”

“No if I tell you now you won’t eat and you are too thin. Eat and then we’ll talk.” He replied eating his dinner.

Nikita ate her dinner while her mind was turning. Why would her mother be writing her after all these years. I just hate it when I’m right, Nikita sighed.

****

“She what? Why?” Nikita asked unbelievingly.

“She wants to come and see you. She wants to apologize.” Paul replied.

“I don’t want to see her dad. I don’t want to have anything to do with her. Can you arrest her when she gets here?” Nikita asked softly.

“You don’t have to see her. I’ll send her away. I just thought you’d like to know.”

“I can’t believe she wants to apologize for everything that she let happen to me. Dad, it hurts. It still does. Michael is the best he doesn’t rush and he is patient. I’m scared that when we do go to make love I won’t be able to. That scares me.” She told her dad crying.

“Nikki if you tell Michael I’m sure he will understand. You’ll be okay.” Paul said hugging his daughter. He felt her head nod from side to side.

“I just want this to be over.” She whispered.

“It will be. You just have to let it go sweetie.” Paul said softly tears building in his eyes.

“I love you Dad.”

“I love you too sweetie.” He said holding his little girl until she fell asleep.

***********

“Nikita.” Michael called her name as he saw her pass by the locker room door. He grabbed his bag quickly and smiled as he hugged her.

“Hey. This is a pleasant surprise.” She said holding his hand as they walked.

“Coach let us out early. Why are you still here?” He asked as they walked out to the parking lot.

“I wish Coach Wright let us out. She was really pissed. We didn’t do anything right so we had to run extra laps in the gym. I’m beat.” She said as she yawned.

“You need a ride?” He asked as he put his bag in the backseat of his car.

“Nah. Walter is coming to dinner so I’m snagging a ride with him.” She replied.

“You are still going to the state finals tomorrow with us?” He asked softly.

“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?” She asked looking at him a puzzled expression on her face.

“I thought with whatever you’ve been going through you were going to skip it.” He stated his eyebrow raising slightly.

“ ‘Whatever’ I’ve been going through will not stop me from watching you cream Sante Fe.” She said a little cloud settling over her mood.

“Nikita, you know you can tell me anything?” He asked.

“I know Michael. You tell me that everyday.” She said snapping. “I’m just trying to tell you I’m here for you. You don’t have to snap.“ He looked away and sighed. “I gotta go. I’ll talk to you later.”

He kissed her cheek and got in the car. Nikita watched him drive away. She closed her eyes. This whole week she had been short with him. He was always so patient and she was sorry every time. She knew that it would be easier if she talked to him but she was embarrassed.

“Hey Nikki, was that your man leaving?” Walter’s gruff voice rang out bringing her mind back to reality.

“Yeah.”

“He looked pissed.” Walter observed.

“He was,” was the monotone reply.

“Nikki, why don’t you just tell him.”

“I can’t. Can we just go. I’m hungry.” She stated walking to Walter’s bike. She was relieved when he mounted the bike without another word.

****

“Hey Maman.” Michael kissed her cheek as he sat at the table.

“You hungry?” She asked serving him food

“Yeah. Thank you.” He said as he accepted the plate. He smiled as she set her plate down and began to eat with him.

“Want some wine?” She asked.

“Mhmmm.” He said between bites.

“Are you okay?” She asked as she saw the troubled glint in his eyes.

“Nikita’s been acting funny this past week. Every time I try to get her to talk about what’s bothering her she gets defensive and angry. She lashes out. I just want to be there for her.” He said softly taking a gulp of his wine.

Madeleine regarded her son. She knew what Nikita wasn’t telling him. Her and Paul had been spending a lot of time together and he had told her about Roberta. That woman was a witch. Nikita was scared. Scared of what could happen. Madeleine sighed that poor girl had been through so much in her short life.

“Michael, when she is ready she will talk to you. Just don’t take anything she says against you. She cares about you. She is just confused.” Madeleine said ruffling his hair.

“I know.” He said as she finished her food and put her plate in the sink. “Where are you going?”

“Remember I have that meeting tonight.” She stated as she donned her suit jacket.

“Right. I forgot.”

“It’s okay mon cher. I’ll be back later. Je t’aime.” She said kissing his cheek.

“Moi aussi.” He said as he watched her go out to the living room and say bye to everyone. He sighed and went to see Adam.

“Did you finish your homework?” He asked his son and his sister.

“I didn’t have any.” Monique replied.

“I did.” Adam said.

“Get it out and let me check it.” Michael said sitting on the couch. Adam got up and left. Michael watched his sister watching Tarzan. He looked to the hall as he heard footsteps walking.

“Hi all. I’m back from those dreaded student parent-er brother conference.” Mick said loudly.

“Hey Mick.” Monique said happily. “Come over here Lizzie watch the monkey get her foot.”

“How was practice?” Mick asked.

“It was okay. You guys hungry?” Michael asked closing his eyes slightly.

“No, we ate before we came here.” Mick stated following Michael’s suit. “This damn time change get me every bloody time.” “Mick there are kids here.” Michael said softly.

“Sorry.”

“Here Daddy.’ Adam said running into Michael’s lap.

“Hmm let’s see. Okay.” Michael said nodding his head every so often. After a moment he smiled.

“Very good. You did a great job. Are you and Monique bathed.”

“Oui, nous nous avons lave’,” He replied happily.

“Good. Now go watch the movie.” He said kissing his son’s head.

****

“Daddy, Grandpa called today.” Adam said as he was being tucked into bed.

“He did? Did you talk to him.”

“Yes. He made me laugh. He told me that him an’ Granma are coming for the summer.” Adam replied excitedly.

“That’s great mon petit. I can’t wait. Now get some sleep.” Michael said hugging Adam. “Goodnight.”

“G’night Daddy. Love you.” Adam said softly as he yawned.

“Je t’aime aussi.” He said softly closing the door.

Michael went downstairs to watch some television. He was tired and was going to hit the hay soon. As he watched television he feel asleep right there on the couch.

Nikita smiled as Walter whispered a dirty joke in her ear. She giggled as he got to the punch line. She pulled her ear back and swatted him playfully.

“Walter you are a pig.” She stated playfully.

“I know but you love me anyway.”

“I know. I need help.” She stated thoughtfully. “Nikki.” Nikita turned at the sound of her father’s voice. She swallowed at his expression.

“She is on the phone.”

Nikita sighed her good mood vanishing. She looked at her hands and sighed again. Why couldn’t Roberta just back off.

“Okay.”

“You don’t have to say anything. You don’t even have to talk to her.” Her father said gently.

Nikita regarded him as she thought about her decision. The thought of her never talking to Roberta appealed to her psyche but the part that was Roberta’s daughter screamed for her to answer the phone. She didn’t know what to do. She felt claustrophobic and hot. Her outward appearance however, was nothing but calm. The big question was should she or shouldn’t she?

************

“Hello.” Nikita whispered into the phone.

“Nikita? Is that you?” Roberta said softly.

“Yeah, it’s me.” She said sniffing,

“Oh. I have so much I want to tell you. Thank you for answering this call.” Roberta stated a grateful tone in her voice.

“Yeah, well, I almost didn’t. What do you want Roberta.” She replied sighing.

“I wanted to talk to you about what I have done to you. All the irresponsible decisions I made.” Roberta said.

“Look can we not do this. I’m getting ready for bed. I have school in the morning.” Nikita replied shortly.

“I understand. Please give me a chance to talk to you and explain some of the stuff that happened.” Roberta pleaded.

“I don’t know. I have to go. Good night.” Nikita said hanging up the phone quickly. She ran a hand through her hair and sighed shakily. Tears ran down her cheeks as her anger and pain ran through her being. Her hands shook with pent up emotion as they fell to her sides. She took a deep breath and bottled up those emotions that were screaming to be let out.

A few minutes later, after saying goodnight to her father and Walter, Nikita lay in bed quietly thinking about her mother. How can you care about someone who didn’t give a damn about you. Nikita sighed as Michael’s words ran through her head. She closed her eyes and shut down all her feelings about her mother and what her boyfriends did to her.

************

Michael glanced at Nikita as she next to him on the bus going to the Sante Fe High. She had been quiet all day during school and hadn’t said two words to anybody. He sighed and looked away. He wish she would just tell him what was bothering her. He looked at her and saw a tear streaming down her cheek. He watched as she turned her head to try and hide it.

He took her hand in his and held her as she turned her face into his neck. He held her as she cried silently. He glanced around the bus and was thankful that nobody was paying any attention to them. He murmured softly in her ear trying to make her feel better. After a few minutes her tears quieted and she hugged Michael tightly.

“Thank you.” She whispered.

“No problem.” He whispered back.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for being bitchy and snapping at you all the time.” she said softly looking down.

“It’s okay. I’m tough, I can take it.” He said kissing her knuckles.

“You shouldn’t have to take it Michael. You are the best boyfriend. Your patient and don’t complain. I’m sure I do and say things that drive you mad but you just accept them. Why?” She asked looking at him questioningly.

“Because I want to. Because I really like and care about you. Nikita, you make me happy, truly happy. No one has done that for me in a very long time. When Elena died I thought I will never be happy with anyone else ever again but you make me happy. Everything you do won’t make me happy and you will probably exasperate me all the time. But I won’t ever change who you are. I love everything about you and I like you just the way you are.” He said softly his voice tinged with a little embarrassment.

“Thank you.” She said smiling as she kissed his cheek. Her smile stayed on her face for the rest of the day.

****

Michael grunted as he got kicked on the side of his calf. He fell with another guy on the ground. He stood up and glared at the guy who had kicked him. He smiled as the ref held up a card on him.

“Next time watch where you kick.” He said softly limping slightly. He made his way to the goal and prepared for his free kick.

He closed his eyes. This kick could win the game for them. It had been a rough one. Sante Fe was a good team and the Wolves had struggled and worked for every point and every possession. They were sweaty, bloody, and tired.

If he concentrated he could hear Nikita’s words of encouragement out in the front of the bleachers. He smiled inwardly and then tuned out every sound and focused on his objective. He stretched his neck and opened his eyes ready for the kick.

Nikita watched as Michael opened his eyes. His face was blank and she knew he was focused on getting that ball in the goal. She saw his muscled legs tense up and run towards the ball. She held her breath as his foot met the ball hard. She gasped, along with other Wolf fans, as the ball soared in the air. Her eyes widened as the goalie jumped up and...

“HE MISSED!!!” She yelled jumping up and down.

She looked for Michael and saw him jump high in the air. She saw the wide smile on his face as Mick hugged him and the rest of the team huddled around him. She smiled happily as they cheered. They had won the championship.

A short while later a psyched up soccer team sat on the bus talking excitedly. Michael, however, was quiet and tired.

“I can’t believe we creamed those morons!” Mick exclaimed.

“I can. They played dirty.” Michael said snuggled against Nikita his eyes closed.

“True. Michael you played a helluva game. I b-” Mick frowned as Michael cut him off.

“Mick, thanks but I have to get some sleep or we will be walking home.” He stated sleepily.

“Okay.” Mick said smiling as he saw Michael lay his head on Nikita’s shoulder.

****

“I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” Nikita said as Michael walked her to her door.

“Yeah tomorrow.” He said smiling at her.

“You played good today Michael.”

“Thanks. You okay?” He asked looking at their clasped hands.

“My mother called. She wants to see me and talk about what she did when I lived with her. On one hand I want to see her but the other doesn‘t ever want to see her. I don’t want to talk about it right now. I just don‘t want to lose you and thought you should know.” She whispered.

“Hey, I’m not going anywhere. No offense to guys or Americans but I’m not your typical guy or an American. I don’t go out on flings or one night whatever's. I’m in this for as long as you’ll have me.” He said stepping close to her.

“I’m also glad you told me. It explains a lot.” He looked at Mick who yelled from the car.

“ I gotta go.” He whispered. He looked at her and kissed her hard. He licked her lower lip before slipping his tongue in her mouth. When they broke free they were both short of breath.

“See you tomorrow.” He said s she moved to go inside.

“G’night Michael.” She said as she shut her door.

************

Michael smiled at Adam as he licked the ice cream from his fingers. He glanced at Mick huddled next to Nikita talking in hushed tones. He frowned slightly as he paid the ice cream vendor wondering what they were talking about.

It had been two weeks since she had told him about her mother’s phone call. He sighed as he made his way to them and smiled as she looked up at him. They had just started Holiday Break and he was looking forward to spending time with her.

“Are you two ready to head home?” He took her hand and kissed her cheek.

“Yeah. We just gotta get Monique and Lizzie at the candy store.” Mick replied walking towards the store. “I’ll go in you two lovebirds wait here.”

Michael looked at Adam who was standing next to them licking his ice cream cone. He turned his head back to Nikita, who was looking at him funny.

“What?” He asked curiously.

“Nothing. Just admiring the view.” She replied softly. His shy smile took her breath away. She closed her eyes as he kissed her softly and quickly just as Mick and the girls arrived.

“So, Michael, do you really think your mum will dig this thing I got her?” Mick asked curiously.

“Yes. She loves flowers and plants Mick. She’ll like it. Did you get that smelly lotion stuff?” Michael asked as he draped an arm around Nikita and held Adam’s hand as they walked.

“Yeah. It’s right here. It smelled awfully rosy Michael, I don’t know about it.” Mick said uncertainly.

“Trust me, Mick. She loves that stuff. My father used to buy it for her all the time. It’s one of the only things I really remember about him.” Michael said letting Nikita’s shoulder free and bent to pick up his son. He helped Adam lick the dripping ice cream on his cone.

“It’s really messy, Daddy.” Adam said seriously.

“I know, that’s why I’m helping you silly.” Michael replied softly.

“Daddy I wanna take a picture with Monique and Santa Claus.” Adam stated a they passed jolly old Saint Nick.

“Maybe next time. We gotta get home. Grandma is coming home early to take you out remember.” “Oh yeah. We are going to see that cartoon at the movies.” Adam said softly.

“Yeah.”

“What are you doing while we are gone?” He asked looking at his Dad.

“Well me and Nikita are going to hang out.” Michael said smiling at her. “Come on let’s get home.”

“Okay.” Adam said happily as Michael set him down and he ran towards Monique and Lizzie.

Michael smiled as he looked as his son. He looked at Nikita and smiled as he felt her hand grab his. He squeezed her hand and prayed to God that this Christmas was better then last years.

****

“It’s so quiet here.” Nikita whispered as she and Michael sat on the couch watching Die Hard.

“I know. I keep expecting Adam to jump on top of me with some weird invention.” Michael chuckled.

“Are you okay? You have been quiet since we’ve left the mall.” She asked from her perch on his chest.

“Just thinking about this time last year.” Michael said softly.

“What about it?”

“Nothing. Just praying that this year is better then last.” He whispered smelling her hair.

“How is it doing so far?” She asked playfully.

“Well, it’s a lot better so far.” He smiled smelling her hair again. “Mhmmm you smell good.”

“Thank you.”

Michael smiled at her as she looked at him. He lowered his mouth to hers and softly kissed her. He breathed deeply as her lips yielded to his. They were soft and warm and tasted like Nikita. He leaned his cheek into her palm as it stoked his face. They broke free and tried to catch their breath.

She giggled as his fingers tickled her ribs. She jerked as they began to tickle her mercilessly. She laughed and twisted and turned in an attempt to break free from his fingers. She had tears coming down her face and thought of a way to stop his fingers.

She launched herself at him and pressed her mouth hard against his. She felt a groan pass deep in his chest before it hit his throat. She plunged her tongue in his mouth tasting him. She pushed him down on the couch and stretched her long body atop of his. She moved her hands under his shirt and felt his strong muscles jump as her hands touched them. She smiled as his hands caressed her lower back and drop lower, squeezing her gently. She dropped her mouth to his neck and kissed him her tongue leaving a wet trail.

Michael moaned as her mouth caressed his neck lightly licking and nipping. His hands clenched her bottom before moving up to her back and under her shirt. He caressed her smooth back before sliding one hand out to guide her face back to his mouth. There mouths mated for several minutes before the need for oxygen broke them apart.

Michael sighed as Nikita nestled her head in his neck. He was hot and winded. He inhaled the smell of her hair and hugged her to him.

Nikita moaned softly as Michael’s arms wrapped around her in a warm safe cocoon. The pulse at his neck provided a sweet calming rhythm. His arms tightened around her as he shifted slightly. Her eyes opened wide as she felt something. As he shifted for a more comfortable position Nikita felt panic rise in her throat.

She swallowed thickly as she felt the hard bulge beneath his pants. Her breathing became shallow and her pulse raced. She closed her eyes and willed the terror to vanish. It only got worse. With a strangled cry she pulled away from him sharply.

“Nikita?” Michael asked concerned as she sat up breathing fast.

She just stared at him with a weird look in her eyes. He watched as her eyes looked from his eyes and traveled down to his crotch. He followed it and saw the bulge that was straining to get out. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

“Nikita? Are you okay?” He asked holding out a hand which she backed away from. A flash of hurt passed through his eyes as he lowered his hand.

Nikita closed her eyes and shook her head against the memories that invaded her mind. When she opened them all she saw was Michael with a confused and hurt expression on his face.

“It’s not you.” She whispered taking his hand from his lap.

She moved nearer to him and looked at their hands. She sighed and looked back at him. His eyes were sad and apologetic. She saw him take a breath to speak and she silenced him with her fingertips.

“Don’t apologize for what happened. I’m not sorry. It’s just that I get anxious...” Her voice trailed off.

“ I’m not going to push you into anything. I don’t ever want to hurt you. Why can’t you just tell me?” He asked softly wanting to erase her pain. When she didn’t respond he pulled her towards him slowly. When she fell against him he held her and rocked gently back and forth.

“I know you won’t but I can’t talk about it yet.” She whispered hugging him tightly.

****

Madeleine smiled as the children ran to the door. She looked at Paul and shook her head. Children had energy she wished she still possessed. She sighed as she pulled her keys from her purse to open the door.

As they stepped into the house it was dark and quiet. Monique, Lizzie, and Adam stepped hesitantly, a little anxious about entering in a dark house. Madeleine as she covered a giggle.

Paul followed her in with the children bringing up the rear. He smiled as they bumped into his legs. He watched Madeleine and saw her saw her pause at the entry way to the living room. He saw the light form the television cast reflections in the room.

“Madeleine?” He called.

“Shh.” She whispered smiling softly.

“What?” Paul whispered as he made his way beside her. His breath caught in his chest when he saw what she did. His baby girl was snuggled comfortably in Michael’s arms.

Paul sighed against the wave of emotions that surged through him. Pain, anger, sadness, pride, jealousy, happiness, and a bit of joy coursed through him at the scene before him.

His eyes lifted as Michael jerked slightly his face forming a frown. His eyes misted over as he saw his daughter turn her face into his neck and kiss him softly before snuggling into him, wrapping her arms around his abdomen.

Madeleine looked at Paul’s face and sighed at the emotions that crossed it. She took his hand and led him to the kitchen the children following quietly behind them. they sat down and waited for their promised milk and cookies. As they ate Paul drank the wine Madeleine had given him and was silent.

“Paul, it was bound to happen sooner then later.” Madeleine said softly.

“I know. I was just hoping later rather then sooner.” He whispered tightly. “Do you think they are sleeping together?”

“No, from what you have told me, and what Michael has told me, neither are ready. Michael is still going through the motions from Elena and the hell Charles put us through. Nikita is healing as we speak from years of physical and emotional abuse. They haven’t.” Yet she added silently.

“I like Michael, I really do, but right now he is just a guy in my eyes.” Paul said.

“ He is just a guy but he is also Michael. A nineteen year old with an almost four year old son.” Madeleine said hoping to reassure him.

“That helps Madeleine, it really does.” He replied sarcastically.

“What I mean by that is he knows responsibility and the consequences of the actions he takes. He cares deeply about Nikita. It amazes me how much he does given the short amount of time they have known each other. So, he won’t hurt her if he can help it. Besides he is a very patient young man. He will wait forever if it means he and everyone else will be happy.” Madeleine explained.

“Patient huh? Then care to explain that cute four year old running around?” Paul asked eyebrows raised.

“There were circumstances to Adam’s creation, one’s that I can’t discuss with him in the same room. However, the person Michael was then is most certainly not the man Michael is today. He has changed sometimes for the better and sometimes I think he grew up to quickly.” Madeleine said eyes downcast.

“I don’t think he has any regrets about himself as much as he does about you. He has a lot of what if’s floating around that genius brain of his.” Paul said softly.

“I know.”

“Thanks for the pep talk. It helped and it didn’t. It’s a father-daughter thing.” he said smiling.

“I know. Kind of like the mother-son thing.” She replied smiling back.

****

Michael frowned slightly as he felt breath in his face. He moaned and shifted in an attempt to get away from what ever was bothering him. He opened his eyes slightly and heard Nikita giggle before he actually saw her. He opened his eyes wider and net her blue eyes with his green ones.

“Good morning sleepy head.” She whispered softly.

“Morning. How long have we been asleep?” He asked his accent thick with sleep.

“About an hour maybe two. I think everyone is home.” She said laying on him once again.

“You okay?” He asked hugging her.

“Yeah. We have to talk soon. I have a lot to tell you and once I start I can’t stop.” She replied shivering.

“It’s a deal. There is this concert I got tickets to next week. Monica, Lighthouse, Destiny’s Child, and a whole bunch of other bands are going to be there to support anti-domestic violence. It’s kind of a gift for abused kids thing and they mailed them to me. I want you to go with me.” Michael said stroking her hair.

“Sounds like fun. Just us?” She asked.

“Yeah. We don’t get much time alone and whenever we go out it is with all our friends. I figured we need ‘just us’ time.” He said smiling.

“Cool, we don’t have to deal with them making out in your car.” Nikita whispered her eyes closing at the hypnotic rhythm of his hand stroking her hair.

“Can you believe that you’ve been here almost five months?” She asked yawning.

“I know.” He said stretching. “Come on let’s go get some food I’m hungry and if I’m hungry you must be starved.”

As soon as the words left his mouth Nikita’s stomach growled loudly in agreement. She blushed in embarrassment and Michael giggled and helped her up.

************

Nikita smiled as Michael opened her door for her. They had just got home from the concert. It was great and she loved spending time talking and getting to know Michael better. She touched his cheek as they stood outside her door.

“Thank you. I had so much fun.” She giggled. “I have to admit though, the highlight was you singing. It was pretty funny. ”

“I’m glad you are having fun laughing at me. You should feel lucky. I don’t usually let anyone hear my beautiful singing.” He replied playfully.

“If that was beautiful I would hate to hear horrible.” She stated.

“Now you sound like Adam.” Michael smiled.

“He is a smart kid, he must have gotten his ear form his mother because his dad is completely tone deaf when it comes to singing. I think you just need to stick to the cello.” She said.

“Thanks for the advice.” He said good naturedly.

Nikita moved closer to him and was a breath from claiming her kiss when her door opened and her father’s face appeared. Nikita left her hand on Michael’s chest as she looked at her father’s strained face.

“Dad? Are you okay?” She asked in concern.

“Hi Michael. I’m fine Nikki but I have to tell you something.” He looked inside and shut the door. He looked back to his daughter concern in his eyes. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

“Somebody is here. They wanted to surprise you. She just got here five minutes ago.” Paul whispered as he looked at his daughter, who was shaking her head side to side.

“No. Dad, please tell me she is not here.” Nikita whispered.

Michael stared at Nikita his eyes dark with concern. He grabbed her hand which had become sweaty. He stepped closer to her oblivious to the fact that her father was a few feet away.

“Kita?”

Nikita turned to the gentle voice. She sighed as Michael whispered her shortened name. He had done that a couple of days ago and it made her heart flutter. She looked in his eyes now and saw the concern and confusion in them.

She went to him and hugged him. She smelled his clean scent and her mind drifted to the great night that they had had. She needed him to know everything and she was going to tell him everything today but then this happened.

“I’m going to go inside and say hello to my mother. Please come with me.” She asked as he hugged her.

“Your mother?” He asked puzzled. He looked at Paul, who looked a little hurt.

“Yeah she is here. I guess she wanted to give me my Christmas present early. If you don’t want to come it’s okay.” She said smiling.

“No. I’m coming.” He said holding her hand as she lead the way with Paul bringing up the rear.

************

Roberta sighed as she waited for Nikita to come home. Paul had said that she was out on a date. She closed her eyes and prayed that Nikita would someday forgive her for all the things she did. Her eyes opened at the sounds of footsteps approaching.

Her eyes feel on the young woman before her and her breath caught in her throat. Nikita was gorgeous. Her long blonde hair feel down her back. Her bright blue eyes shone with so much life and happiness. She was wearing a gray skirt with a white top that made her look otherworldly.

“Hi.” Roberta stood up and smiled uncertainly at her.

“Hello.” Nikita replied squeezing Michael’s hand softly.

“I know you asked for time but I was in the neighborhood and thought I would say hello.” Roberta said softly.

“What were you doing in the neighborhood?” Nikita asked.

“I work for Neiman Marcus. I’m a consultant there. They send me around to ship everyone up and make sure everything is okay.” She replied looking at the young man standing next to Nikita.

“That sound good. How have you been?” Nikita asked standing in front of her mother.

She clenched Michael’s hand as he tried to give her space. For the first time she broke eye contact with her mother to look at her boyfriend. She needed him to stay. He may not know it but he had healed her in so many ways that she needed that healing today.

“I’ve been okay. What about you? You look great and happy.” Roberta asked.

“I am okay. I am happy. Dad is the best.” Nikita whispered.

“I am so relieved that you found someone who could take care of you when I couldn’t.” Roberta stated.

“Look Mom-Roberta, I don’t want to talk to you right now. I am on a date and having a wonderful time and I have to tell you things that I can’t right now. I have been a little touchy with this great guy here and need to make it up to him. So if you will excuse me. Dad we are going up to my room and don’t worry, I’ll leave the door wide open.” She replied leading Michael upstairs.

When they got into her room Michael hugged her as she trembled. He sighed as she cried softly. He pulled away and kissed her softly. She sighed as his lips caressed hers and then moaned as his tongue crept into her mouth.

“Thanks” Nikita said when they broke apart.

“Now are you going to tell me what happened.” Michael whispered.

“It is bad. My mother wasn’t that woman downstairs. When I was younger she was a drunk and a druggie. She was a mess and everything she did was hell for both of us. She was irresponsible and not ready for motherhood and took out all her problems on me. My mother wasn’t like yours.” Nikita murmured as Michael looked at her not talking.

“We lived out on the streets. We had an apartment from time to time but the majority of the time we lived out on the streets. We struggled a lot for food. Most of the time I stayed at a shelter until I was about seven then I was with her most of the time. I was always hungry. When Dad adopted me I always thought that staying hungry was okay. He had to teach me how to eat, sleep, and trust. He bought the me that was hidden away out.” Nikita said standing up and looking out the window.

“My mother had a lot of boyfriends. When I was nine we had an apartment for a few months. I thought things were going to get better they just got worse. One night I was sleeping when I heard my bedroom door open. He was so drunk he could have woken the dead. I was so scared when he sat at the edge of my bed. I thought he would leave me alone if I pretended to be asleep but he just woke me up and that is when my hell began.” Nikita whispered sadly as tears stream down her face.

“Nikita you don’t have to.” Michael said softly his heart breaking for her.

“Yes, I do. Let me finish. I need to tell you.” She said as she went to him and grabbed his hand.

“He wasn’t the last but I remember him the best. I never knew pain like I did on that night. It was hell. He didn’t just do it once, he kept on and on until I passed out. I woke up in the morning and I couldn’t move but I had to because I couldn’t stay in that house. When I got up I felt so ashamed. I was only nine years old. When I told her she was so drunk she couldn't even see straight. When I told her she slapped me and called me a liar. She told me that none of her men would ever touch me.” Nikita sighed harshly.

“When I was eleven my mother’s boyfriend’s nightly visits were routine. I thought that it was normal for men to do that to little girls. When I met Dad I thought that was what he wanted but he was the first man to show me right and wrong. He helped make some of the wounds go away. When I got my first boyfriend and we kissed I panicked. Whenever I got boyfriends I laid down ground rules and they followed them until they grew tired of waiting for me to put out.” She said sadly.

“Then you came and I felt something I have never felt before. Michael you are different then anyone else I have ever known. You really listen to me and care about me. I didn’t even know what happened to you when we kissed until that night on the couch. You didn’t complain about it so I never really much thought about it. Then when we were on the couch and I felt what I did, I was scared but...” Nikita looked at him and touched his cheek.

“I can’t even describe it. I’m so touched that you hide and endured that just to make me feel safe. You do you know. No guy has ever done that for me. Well only my dad cause he doesn’t count. There is more but I can’t talk about it anymore. I have a feeling that all this stuff my inner crap is just now getting resolved. I just hope that you stick around for the end result.” She said looking down.

Michael looked at her speechless. She had shared some of her worst moments with him and she was scared he was going to leave her. He smiled and shook his head. It terrified him that he felt this strongly for someone. He was only nineteen but he saw a future there whenever he thought of Nikita.

“Kita, look at me.” He said cupping her chin to direct her eyes into his.

“I’m not going anywhere. I just found you, I’m not about to lose you. I am sorry that you had to go through all those things but if you let it go I promise things will get better. I admire your courage and strength to get through the things you did.” He kissed her eyes softly before claiming her mouth.

Michael held her close his mouth hot and demanding on hers. His kisses insistent and passionate. He weaved a hand in her hair caressing its silky strands. He sighed when her hands played with the nape of his neck.

Nikita sighed as Michael’s healing touch spread warmly throughout her body. He really was special. She felt her stomach tighten with want. Even after all the men I still want him to show me what it’s like to...the thought drifted away as a throat cleared in her doorway.

Nikita and Michael broke apart and clasped hands as they separated. Nikita smiled at her father innocently. She saw him glance at Michael.

“Your mother called. Adam has a cold and is having trouble sleeping. She said if you could calm him.” Paul said .

“Okay. Goodnight Nikita. I’ll call you.” Michael whispered kissing her forehead. “Goodnight Mr. Wolfe.”

As Michael left Nikita smiled as she hugged her dad goodnight. Roberta’s visit was not fun but thoughts of Michael overtook the anger and pain and filled her with happiness.
