Drabble Premise:
He stood in front of the final door between himself and freedom.
Hesitation.
There was reason enough years ago—years of watching the ruthless hand of Section crush or maim every spark of decency, of compassion, of caring—while he observed impotently from the sidelines, dispensing pitiful advice, offering feeble comfort.
Caution.
He told himself he was just being careful and meticulous, habits honed by the precise creation of his ‘toys.’ He told himself he was too old to be a warrior.
