A lizard lazes on a stone
On a sunny sultry day.
One eye open the other closed
To keep the flies away.
The frogs are no where to be seen.
They wait until the night,
When they can make their croaking calls
To some she-frog’s delight.
A little patch of Eden,
Green land and fertile fields
Outlined by rocky walls,
Reveal all that life yields.
This is his piece of heaven,
His refuge and retreat,
A comfort when he’s weary,
A place to rest his feet.
He walks the fields of green.
He sees the stars at night.
He toils to make a dream
So things will be all right.
The owls call out their greeting.
The dogs join in the glee.
He sits beside the fire.
At last he can be free.
