"Choices"

When presented with a choice of two
Blackboards placed in front of you,
One filled with words of every kind
From many of the world’s great minds,
Or one that’s but an empty slate,
But on which one could speculate,
Could jot down all your hopes and dreams
Or entertain some far out schemes,
      Which would you choose?
      There’s naught to lose
So go ahead and pick the one
I’ll guess the choice when you are done.

      Here is what I recognize:
      That people like to fantasize.
      They much prefer to postulate
And take their time to cogitate
About themselves and what life means,
      Anything that fulfils their dreams.
      Michael’s like that empty slate
      Upon which we can isolate
      Our individual fantasies
      Which will be finally free.
We’re released from real life’s tedium
When we enter a different medium.

The unknown attracts us like a flame
That draws the moth for a final game
We, too, are drawn to what is hidden
To that which is the most forbidden.
      The most mysterious or undefined
Is more attractive than a written line.

So...did I guess the choice you made
Or have I found you too afraid
To come to terms with the unknown
Or what you wish for when alone?
