Experience is the teacher--
And if that statement's the truth,
Then we have an understanding,
Our lives are the living proof.
The enigmatic Operations,
The leader of Section One,
Had been held in a Viet Cong prison
For many years duration.
Who knows of the horrors he witnessed,
Or the pains that he suffered while there?
He learned in this situation
That life isn't always fair.
There were choices he made to survive it.
These were not always pretty to see.
A few had to die for the others
So that finally the rest could be free.
When later he took over Section,
As leader and head of the team,
His past experiences were crucial
In Section One's overall scheme.
It's not always easy to captain
A ship in a raging gale.
Operations' main direction
Was that his ship never fail!
No one knows if he suffers internally.
There's no one who knows how he feels.
All they see in Section is harshness.
Life's cards of existence he deals.
So we see experience as teacher---
Sometimes a helpful device.
Operations performs his duties,
With his soul his last sacifice.
